That's no longer the case for Miss Teen USA, after the Miss Universe organization announced that the pageant is going swimsuit-free. Instead, the 51 women (from the 50 states plus D.C.) will be judged in a brand-new athletic wear competition.

Pageant organizers have long said swimsuit portions were intended to show off the athleticism of the competitors. But Miss Teen USA's transition to athletic wear reads as less exploitative and more focused on the importance of physical fitness for its younger participants, aged 15-19.

No more awkwardly wearing a bikini with high heels:

Seems like if you wanted to judge athleticism of competitors you could have a track meet or something.

You'd have to cover a lot of sports or athletic ability. Maybe they will show off skills during the competition.

My point is we want to see who is athletic, we have events that measure athleticism (of various sorts) already.

If you're trying to judge how hot a girl looks in spandex tights at a beauty pageant, athleticism is not what you're after.

In other news, the Miss Teen USA pageant didn't close down a decade ago as a result of being the Miss Teen USA pageant.

More like Miss Teen hardbody, high testosterone USA. They must all have linebackers as brothers.

What sports/activities do you find the best late teen bodies? Too much activity in the sport means too little body fat :(

How else do you expect them to get material for their future Brazzers audition tape?

I'm not seeing it as much of an improvement unless the "sportswear competition" is actually a sports competition
