Twitter confirmed it has permanently banned Breitbart Tech editor and alt-right provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos for allegedly violating its “hateful conduct policy”.

The contretemps has been brewing all week, as Milo engaged in a barbed to and fro with embattled Ghostbusters star Leslie Jones over her Twitter feud with trolls who hated her new movie. At one point the CEO of Twitter Jack Dorsey intervened himself, asking Jones to direct message him. Milo himself said nothing racist, though he joked that Jones’ grammatically challenged quips at him were “barely literate”, said America needs better schools and referred to Jones facetiously as “a black dude”.

Earlier today Milo said he was not sorry for his dialogue with Jones.

Milo Yiannopoulos is nothing but a troll, and just as TFT reserves the right to eventually ban trolls - so does Twitter  He is no champion of free speech, not matter how much he or anyone else wishes to pretend trolls are champions of free speech.

Moreover, contrary to the minimizing article in the OP, what happened to Leslie Jones had nothing to do with people (trolls or otherwise) "who hated her new movie". It was a full-on racist verbal assault on her for no reason other than she is black and female.

We've had these on-line verbal assaults of other women before, and in every case it gets dismissed as "trolls" or kids and somehow not real; and/or the woman herself gets blamed because she somehow brought it on herself by writing/tweeting something provocative.

What will be the excuses this time, I wonder

By 2:45 PM, it hadn’t let up. She stated she’d been called an ape, received pictures of apes’ buttocks, and sent a picture of her face with semen on it (something several women GamerGate has targeted have endured).

Leslie continued to share the hell she was going through. The hate speech directed at her was interspersed with racist slurs, pictures of gorillas as her “family,” and graphic images ranging from porn to gore. Death threats made an appearance as well, with one being in the form of a YouTube video.

What we also need to ask ourselves is how accepting we’ve been of behavior like Milo’s in our complacency and inattentiveness. Because, as many others will tell you, Leslie’s experience isn’t singular. It’s just well known. Any person of color, any woman can be subjected to this kind of abhorrent abuse without a moment’s notice—with nobody reaching out or writing an article at Buzzfeed. Even white men can endure certain levels of similar abuse should they dare to say anything that pisses off GamerGaters, alt-righters, 4channers, while supremacists, or someone overly defensive of the status quo

Who is this person? I've seen the name, but I have even less familiarity with him than I do the Cardassians or whatever they are called.

He works for Breitbart and fancies himself a provocateur extraordinaire but is really nothing more than a misogynistic troll

Twitter is showing themselves as utter hypocrites for banning Milo but being far more lenient toward left-wingers who say far worse things.

P.S.: The new Ghostbusters looks terrible (like an overly long bad SNL sketch), judging from the commercials.

A lot of twitter users are just anonymous trolls talking shit because they can get away with it. If they get banned, they sign up again with a new account and carry on. Twitter is often times just a cesspit of bile. Celebrities only have themselves to blame for signing up for it. Twitter could be a useful tool but it's mostly garbage.

The new Ghostbusters movie is a decent movie. It is not as roaringly funny as the original, but it has a lot more quiet and wittier jokes in it than the original.

Whenever I see "Breitbart" in a story, it invariably involves something incredibly stupid or racist or misogynist in nature.

I doubt there was an explicit or even veiled call to his follower base to harass Leslie Jones, but he really fucked up calling her a dude - even though she could probably beat him in a fight. His fans are many and very trolly so just responding to her in even a measured way given his past actions and persona guaranteed some response by his followers. He did the "feminism is cancer" meme. He plans (will he do it?) to march during a gay pride parade through a muslim area in Sweden. He probably talks the most shit about lesbians and the amount of domestic violence HE says they commit.

Really? The previews make it look very slapstick and lowbrow humor.

Should that be a bannable offense?
And besides, she kinda does.

Can you point out an example of twitter being far more lenient toward left wingers who say far worse things? I am not on twitter, so I honestly don't know.

As far as the new Ghostbusters looking like an overly long bad SNL sketch, well, that would be the original. Except that it worked very well and was quite funny. The new Ghostbusters is better on some fronts than the original but imo, mostly suffers from not being original, nor a sequel. It pays homage to the original by casting most of the original cast (save Ramis, who has died and Moranis, who I understand refused a reappearance, which is too bad) but isn't much of an improvement in most ways although Jones and McKinnon are truly excellent. It's a different movie that plays it all very straight, which the original did not do, and relied upon the cynicism of Murray and the audience, very successfully.

I've said before and I will again: the comments appearing on NPR's online site--fucking NPR!--below any article referencing Michelle Obama are racist, vulgar and sexist--before they are taken down.
So we agree, the comments against both Melania and Michelle are far worse than saying that a masculine woman looks like a "dude" which is apparently what got Milo banned?

Not a fan or impressed by Melania, but here you go:

Would love to be able to do a cross-reference and see how many are from the same "alt-R" people.

I'm not impressed with Melania either, but she doesn't deserve to be called sexist names on Twitter any more than Leslie Jones does. Of course, if she was a brown immigrant instead of a white immigrant, we would be seeing ignorant tweets comparing her to animal parts, too. OTOH, Trump would never have married her, so she wouldn't have been in the public eye and therefore a target for women-haters.

Definitely not what got Milo banned.

As I am sure you know.

For that matter, I've read plenty of posts saying that Michelle Obama looks like a dude. And far worse.

Saying Leslie Jones looks like a dude is not what got Milo permanently banned, and you know it.

But leave it to you to not only minimize and dismiss his long history of misogynistic trolling, but to add your own against Leslie Jones

But of course, Leslie calling Milo "uncle Tom of gay people" is perfectly acceptable, right?

Does tan count? Or is "brown" just shorthand for "Muslim or Hispanic" regardless of actual hue or albedo? Because often that's how "brown" and "swarthy" are used over at PD.

So what do you think got him banned?

I am just speaking the truth. She is not the most feminine of women.

That's crazy talk! Michelle Obama is actually quite an attractive woman for being 52. Unlike Leslie.
