Congressman Tells BBC: Charlotte Protesters ‘Hate White People’

A United States representative from North Carolina said in a television interview on Thursday that protesters in Charlotte “hate white people because white people are successful and they’re not,” and then hours later recanted and apologized.

The representative, Robert Pittenger, a Republican whose district includes parts of Charlotte, was interviewed on a British Broadcasting Corporation show, BBC Newsnight, when he made the comment.

This was an asinine thing to say but he did apologize about two hours afterwards.

Yeah, there couldn't possibly be actual police brutality, and prejudice within the police departments. These protestors must just hate white people.

It reads like fucking fiction.

So, here is Scott's brother is saying "all white cops are fucking devils, and all white people". He does seem to hate white people, right?

Given the cop who did the shooting, and the police chief supposedly covering up stuff are both Black?

So, the words of a grieving brother, who has not been elected to any office, serve to cancel out the words of a sitting US Representative from the district where the brother was killed? How so?

What does all your whining have to do with the assertion that protesters in Charlotte “hate white people because white people are successful and they’re not” - other than to show that that was a fucking stupid thing to say? Maybe they hate white people because white people shoot them almost indiscriminately and with impunity. YA THINK??

And remember, Howard Dean lost his entire Presidential campaign over one odd-sounding victory howl. Right wing crazies can survive any amount of bigoted, ignorant, paranoid ranting.

The words of the grieving brother seem to illustrate the grieving brother hates white people.

Tip: This shooting did not involve white people.

A black cop working for a department run by a black chief kills a black person and the family and protesters blame white people. Don't you think racial animus is a reasonable interpretation here?

According to FBI crime statistics, twice as many black people kill white people than white people kill black people. There is no war on black people by white people, other than in the heads of black supremacists and black racists and their white useful idiots.

The Congressperson said "The protesters" not "one of the protesters," and definitely not, "one grieving angry relative of a dead man."

The congressperson was absolutely wrong and broad-brushing.
And you're trying to deflect that?

So we should ignore police unjustly killing black people because some black people commit crimes. Is that what you are saying?

Yeah.

It's hard to believe, but yeah.

The words of the grieving brother seem to illustrate the grieving brother hates white people.

Or that he was grieving at the time, and said some things that he may later regret. When emotions run high, people tend to say things they don't actually mean. What you didn't address, however, is how what this man, who just lost his brother, said has any bearing on what the congresscritter said. The congresscritter was not under the same emotional strain that the brother of the dead man was going through, so he doesn't have the same excuse. Further, he is a politician who was been elected to the US House of Representatives, so we should expect him to choose his words more carefully to avoid disparaging the people who he represents.

Yes, of course, who among us has never said "white people are the motherfucking devil" while grieving. Certainly this can't be taken as a sign he has something against white people.

I, for one, have never had my brother shot to death by a Police officer, so it would be difficult for me to place myself in this man's shoes. Also, I'm white, and self loathing just isn't my thing.

Certainly this can't be taken as a sign he has something against white people.

I'm sure you will get around to telling us how this excuses the comment made by Rep. Pittenger any time now.
