So when does it stop being 'PC' and start being 'Common Decency'

It assumes an absolute truth; it suppresses facts that are inconsistent with that truth; it ostracizes those who do not go along with it; and it tries to regulate what are acceptable speech and private interactions

Political correctness is the Trump campaign???

You might be the first person I've encountered to call Trump politically correct.

Would've been fine if he had simply called them "slants".

I think "chink" is the more PC term these days. Please adjust your Liberal Lexicon accordingly.

Also, there is a difference in usage of "Asian" between US and UK. The "Asians" that raped those kids were mostly Pakistani. The rug-peer was "Asian" in the US sense.

Uh, no, as indecent as it may be there exists a commonly defined "Asia". Your sentence is about as accurate as saying there is no Beijing because there's a China, and/or there is no China because there's an Asia, and/or there is no Asia because there's a Eurasia.

And in that commonly defined region, the middle east does not factor in anymore than Russia, or the Indian sub-continent.

You can't have it both ways, guy.

Good news! Yours is the sort of ignorance that can be entirely cured by googling "map of Asia"!

You were the one who laid out parameters for political correctness that the Trump campaign conforms to. So no - I'm the second person. And I posed it in the form of a question :)

Well, it's a good thing they didn't describe them as "Asian men" then, if they were, in fact, Middle Eastern men, because Asian men and Middle Eastern men look nothing alike. It's not PC, it's just common fucking sense.
Of course, anyone actually reading the article would not come to the conclusion that the men were Middle Eastern because there is absolutely nothing in the article that indicates the men were Middle Eastern.
"The United States and Great Britain are two countries separated by a common language." attributed to George Bernard Shaw

When did the Trump campaign try to tell people how to speak, act with each other, or regulate public and private life? One of his main messages was to get government out of our lives.

I think you are in the wrong part of Asia. "Slants" or "Slopes" are East Asians. I believe the report was about culprits from the Middle East.

Damn, you guys are brutal. In the spirit of the OP, you should lighten up on me a little. Chinks. Okay?

Throughout the campaign. It was deplorable. (Ring a bell?)

One of his main messages was to get government out of our lives.

Another was "I'm the law and order candidate." Another was "Must be some punishment (for having an abortion)" Another was "burn the flag, go to jail".
But in the spirit of political correctness, we must not come down on teh Donald for contradicting himself. Besides - we'd be here all day...

NO. Chinks are only Chinese. Nips are Japanese, Dinks are Vietnamese, Gooks are Koreans, etc. but they are all Slopes. :D

Let's not be coy. When people say "Asia" they are referring to the orient and east/south-east Asia specifically. As per the term "Commonly defined" Nobody thinks "Asia" when they think of Iran.

So I'm going to throw the likes of Derec a bone here and give them that "political correctness" is a thing and is overall bad for public discourse.

So the question now becomes when is it being PC and when is it just not being a prick? Is there ever a given context where mocking someone for their physical differences is an acceptable part of public discourse? Does reprimanding people for mocking others for their physical differences automatically make you an SJW then? If so, then what is the alternative when faced with such language?

Well it should be. If someone is fat and they are said to be fat, people should not lose their shit over it, "OMG, they are not FAT !! They are "big boned"" or some such nonsense.

I thought the "invention of the term" was that speech which would not get you killed by the oppressive dictator. And that it originated in China or Korea. If it was "politically correct" it was in accordance with party doctrine and correctly stated.

Leftists have always assumed the prerogative of political correctness as a way to silence speech of their opponents, never to silence the speech of leftists, unless they are not left enough.

PC was a term that invented by right-wingers to relabel what other people consider courtesy.

No, PC is a term invented by Marxists.

Actually PC was a term used in Academia to change the specific wording in academic circles to be more general and less specific to any one sex/race/what have you.

The common example is to say "Person" instead of "Man"

This term was then highjacked by rightist media to serve as a talking point to attack the progressive inclusiveness of the liberal left as "Political correctness" because that sounds scary to people.

Would you be willing to say there is a difference between calling someone fat, and calling them fat after they asked you not to?
