Wouldn't the states taxing their citizens to send money to the south be the stupid ones?

The states aren't transferring state taxes to other states.

It's the big bad Federal gubmint that's taking from the blue states to give to the red ones.

But of course you're well aware of that, so it's quite unclear what your point is...

Republicans are very careful when it comes to rearranging the way Federal money is distributed in the south. There is a lot of pressure to cut public school funding in favor of charter schools. This is a popular "conservative stance," in the same way subsidized flood insurance had little trouble passing through Congress. The Republican constituency benefits from charter schools and cheap flood insurance. Don't look to see funding cut. Look to see it sent to people who vote GOP.

Yeah, I think I accepted for the sake of argument the premise that the big bad federal gubmint is transferring wealth from the blue states to the red states.

The part I questioned was how, if I accept this premise, it makes the red states stupid.

Cause it seems like they are winning the stupidity-fest.

"Premise"?

Oh, that's right, you get your information from Fair And BalancedTM sources, so in your universe, red states pay more taxes than they get back in government spending, while blue states pay less in taxes than they get back in government spending. That's because liberals are statist collectivist deadbeats, while the patriotic Real AmericansTM are the ones who generate all the wealth and are forced to support everyone else.

Facts be damned.

Of course the argument in the OP isn't that this is what makes them stupid. What makes them stupid is continuing to vote for a party that wants to stop their gravy train.

Cause it seems like they are winning the stupidity-fest.

I agree, but not for the reasons you imagined up.

Ah, but since the gravy train hasn't been stopped, then Southern Republican voters keep voting for lawmakers who A) vow to end the gravy train and B) build additional gravy train depots in Southern states.

Ok, so instead of being stupid they are insane. I can live with that change.

It seems to me the insane ones are the ones who want to increase federal taxes and federal spending so they can suck more dollars out of their states and send them to the south.

Having a different opinion than you about who the stupid and or insane ones are is not "deflecting".

This is not a forum for people to just mindlessly parrot the talking points of the left.

Yeah, I know, who am I kidding...

True, but it is a forum for discussing what's actually in the OP. You should try it.

Again, the word "discussing" does not necessarily mean "agrees with as presented while adding a few snarky comments about Republicans".

Though indeed that is rather common here.

Nobody said that's what "discussing" means either. Discussing the OP is discussing the OP not continuously bringing up irrelevant tangents.

You don't have to agree that republican voters voting to elect representatives that run on a platform of lowering the amount of federal spending that goes on in their states are stupid. You can argue that it's the eminently smart of them to vote for their state to get less federal money. Or we could discuss why red states which are typically run by republicans tend to be net takers of federal dollars when their platform is to shrink the federal government.

You started a thread about something being done that made someone look stupid or crazy. I made comments to the effect that that same thing made someone else look stupid or crazy.

Then you derailed the thread by making personal comments about me and my posting.

Someone needs to tell Republicans that you’re not actually supposed to govern according to the rhetoric used to gull the rubes.

lol

He does make a good point though. All the republican efforts to fight the deficit hurt their constituents the most since it is the red states that are typically net receivers of federal dollars.

And people still vote for these guys.

The Republicans have been at this builsh*t, intended to get the rubes voting to lower their own wages so that profits will increase for the 1%, for such a long time that there is an entire generation now that doesn't realize that it is all just bullsh*t and who believes that the bullsh*t actually represents a valid set of governing principles.

It is idiotic for example, to elect people to run the government who don't believe that government works. It would be the same as picking a man or woman to be the CEO of IBM who believes that computers don't and can never work and that we should go back to slide rules and paper ledgers.

The first thing that the Republicans did when they were elected to run Congress in 1994 was to cripple or to eliminate entirely Congress' ability to independently assess the operation of the government and its agencies. They eliminated the Congressional Office of Technical Assessment completely and cut personnel from the Congressional Budget Office and from the staffs of the various standing committees, the people who understood the way that government operated and who provided the continuity for the Congressional oversight function of the various departments and agencies of the government. It is ironic that the party that claims to trust big government the least in turn does the least to monitor that same government. And the party that supports big government does the most oversight.
