In Islam there is no such thing as a civil justice system, the theocracy is the state.
The constitutions of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq declare the Koran as the basis of their legal systems. Islam based in the Koran is antithetical to western democracy.
When I grew up in Connecticut in the 50s/60s we had Blue Laws. Religious based laws. One was businesses had to close on Sunday, a mild form of Christian 'sharia'.
Under Christian 'sharia' that ran up to recent decades there were harsh civil penalties for homosexuality. Heterosexual couples could go to jail for oral sex in some states.
