Ted Cruz booed, walks off stage

Article says some in the crowd were antisemitic. If true, not certain why he was speaking to a bunch of anti-Semites.

Well, apparently it is not agreeing that the "US has no stronger ally than Israel" that makes them anti-Semites. Not exactly the standard definition.

This was a deliberate and rather brilliant political stunt on the part of Cruz. Whether it will succeed at finally getting US Jews to switch to the Republican Party, as the Republicans have been trying for years, remains to be seen. (I think not) But either way, Cruz gets to polish his pro-Israel buttons. If he goes up against Hillary (very outspokenly pro-Israel) he'll need it.

Especially since the US has much stronger allies than Israel.

How can you even question that? Did the English sink any of our navy ships? Did the Japanese ever use spies to steal nuclear secrets from us? Do the Germans use PACs to manipulate our government? None of our other allies do so much for us, so the fact that you would even question Israel's value as an ally proves that you are an anti-semite! Nazi! Your'e a Nazi! You're exactly like Hitler!!!!!!! [/conservolibertarian]

The English have sunk lots of our navy ships.

Not since we've been allies, but still.

Politico said:
The Texas Republican senator and tea party icon was a keynote speaker at a Washington summit hosted by In Defense of Christians, a group that focuses on persecuted Christian and minority communities in the Middle East.

According to several reports and a video taken by EWTN News Nightly and obtained The Daily Caller, Cruz upset many in the crowd by offering strong support for Israel, saying at one point: “Christians have no greater ally than Israel” — a comment that drew boos.

What an idiot.

IDC President Toufic Baaklini said:
“Tonight’s injection of politics when the focus should have been on unity and faith, momentarily played into the hands of a few who do not adhere to IDC’s principles,” Baaklini later added. “They were made no longer welcome.”

Is he criticizing the people who booed, or the people who invited a politician to speak at a unity and faith event?

Am I missing something here? Isn't the Christian right generally pro-Israel?
Who were those who were booing?

... the fact that you would even question Israel's value as an ally proves that you are an anti-semite!

Further proof that Neocons want US foreign policy to be at the service of the foreign policy of another country other than the US.

What ever happened to the US government representing the US? I would ask this neocon but he never answers me.

The Jews who vote GOP because of Israel are already doing so. Very few are likely to cross over because of Ted Cruz, but it's probably more than the number of Latinos who will switch to the GOP because of Cruz.

I'm not so sure those folks are part of the Christian Right. Concern for the rights of religious minorities is strongly associated with liberals. IDC appears to be a mixed group drawn together for a common cause.

It looks like Cruz thought running through the usual pro-Israel talking points was good enough, and was surprised to learn some people in his audience are of the opinion that Israel Really Isn't All That Friendly to Its Christians.

Time magazine has a more in-depth report on Why Ted Cruz Was Booed:

Cruz is often considered a rising darling of the American Christian right. He speaks at evangelical gatherings in the country, talks to groups of conservative pastors and headlines events with the Family Research Council. But Wednesday night, his Christian audience was largely Eastern and Arab. The brand of conservative, American evangelicalism that Cruz often champions—one that often aligns itself with the state of Israel’s interests—did not sit well with everyone in attendance....

... Cruz initially received applause for his opening remarks that the group was united in defense of Christians, Jews, and “people of good faith who are standing together against those who would persecute and murder those who dare to disagree with their religious teachings.”

Things turned sour within minutes. “ISIS, Al Qaeda, Hezbollah, Hamas, and their state sponsors like Syria and Iran, are all engaged in a vicious genocidal campaign to destroy religious minorities in the Middle East,” Cruz said. “Sometimes we are told not to lump these groups together, but we have to understand their so-called nuances and differences. . . . In 1948 Jews throughout the Middle East faced murder and extermination and fled to the nation of Israel. And today Christians have no better ally than the Jewish state.”

His audience at the Omni Shoreham Hotel began to boo.

At first, Cruz continued undeterred. “Let me say this: those who hate Israel hate America. And those who hate Jews hate Christians.”

The booing got louder.

Cruz pressed on, adding that his heart “weeps that the men and women here will not stand in solidarity with Jews and Christians alike who are persecuted by radicals who seek to murder them.”

IDC’s president Toufic Baaklini tried to calm the crowd, which appeared to have a divided reaction to Cruz’s words, but by that point Cruz had had enough. “I am saddened to see some here, not everyone, but some here are so consumed with hate,” he said (to which someone in the audience shouted, “We are not consumed with hate, no, you are consumed with hate”).“If you will not stand with Israel and Jews, then I will not stand with you,” Cruz said. “Thank you and God bless you.”

With that, Cruz walked off stage.

Cruz either doesn't understand that Zionism has very negative consequences for Middle Eastern Christian communities, or he doesn't care. Either way, he deserved to be booed off the stage. He had no respect for the people he was addressing, and they knew it.

Yeah, where are the LimeyPACs, KrautPACs and Jap-PACs? It is a fucking joke.

He did not deserve to be booed because everything he said was absolutely correct. The Islamist radicals that hate Jews also hate Christians.
I guess the audience included a lot of Arabs that have been thought from young age to hate Israel and Jews. Shame really.
