Guess the race of the security guard. Go on, guess!

If you think it's a bad thing that these things are much more likely to happen to citizens of certain races, then you are committing "white genocide" according to conservatives (and libertarians who are completely different, honest!). If you think it's a bad thing that cops have so little regard for the lives of citizens, then you hate the cops according to Republican voters.

Another improperly assessed situation resulting in death by police.

Many security guards wear a uniform. If this victim was in uniform, this is more than inexcusable - it is criminal.

Key: "man with a gun". If you're in a situation where the police are coming you do not want a gun in your hand!

A good example of why giving guns to teachers would be a crazy idea and why if everyone carried a gun we would be less safe.

A good point. If the cops are going to show up five minutes later and start shooting the people who are pointing guns at others, having the teachers subdue the attackers and point guns at them within the first five minutes is a bad idea for those teachers.

After the latest California massacre I had a discussion with my workmate who is a rabid gun nut and Trump supporter. I asked him this very specific question:

"If everyone eighteen years and older had been carrying concealed would there have been more or less gun fatalities?"

He had to think for a few moments before answering "less."

I told him that these situations aren't like the movies where everybody magically knows who the good guys and the bad guys are, that when gunfire is being exchanged and you see other persons with guns you don't know what to shoot at. But he persisted. So I just chalked that up to stupidity on his part and moved on. But this incident obviously proves my case.

It certainly simplifies things when the only ones with guns are the police and the bad guys.

Unless this security guard aimed the gun at the police officer, that officer should be already charged with a crime.

This sounds like the case of the guy in Walmart carrying the airsoft gun (IIRC). Moving in with little information and shot before properly assessing the situation. In other word, trigger happy.

if you are black.

Yeah, if you answer the door with a gun in your hand and you are WHITE, they won't shoot until you attempt to physically wrestle over the gun.

If you wish to avoid being shot and are any color..
It is standard procedure to holster your weapon when the threat is eliminated. There is no reason to wave a gun around when it is not being used... no wonder someone thought he was the perp.. that is not how a guard acts.
It is also understood that if the police are called and you are holding someone at gunpoint, both you and the person being held at gun point are probably BOTH getting arrested. The "good guy" will probably be released in a few hours if his permits are in order (if needed) and there are witnesses confirming you were being a good Samaritan... and all the stories check out.
This "guard" made a bad mistake... failing to stow his weapon after the threat was gone... that makes him the NEW threat.

The threat wasn't eliminated. The guard had subdued the guy, but he was still there unrestrained. The "after the threat was gone" part was what should have happened after the cops got there and put handcuffs on him.

.. then my second paragraph applies.

No. That's not how arrests work. When you have a man down on the ground, you keep your gun trained on him until he's cuffed. That's true for armed security guards as much as it is for police officers. You don't say "Well, he's lying down right now, so I'll just put my gun away".

The threat was in no way eliminated, so holstering his weapon would have been in no way the correct move.

Arrested. Yep. That's what happened here. The cop arrived, saw the man holding a gun, and promptly arrested him. Thank goodness he was released a few hours later after his story checked out.

It's not just the cops. The bad guys will have to assume everyone has a gun when they're robbing a store or a bank. And every vigilante with a gun will be trying to be a hero. I know people like that and have to make them promise not to bring a gun to the Christmas party or I'm not going.

You didn't even read the paragraph you quoted? First you ignore it, then I point it out, then you quote it, but still respond like you didn't read it. Weird.
