F-Head wants to buy Greenland

I challenge Jimmy to make something up that's as crazy as this shit:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/busi...econd-is-trumps-latest-white-house-directive/

Is it any more crazy than buying Alaska from Russia, or "Louisiana" from France, was?

Alaska was largely unexplored and considered by many (including the Russian Emperor) to be worth far less than the $7.2 million Seward and Johnson agreed to pay.

And the area sold by France in the Louisiana Purchase includes a very large fraction of the Trump voting, gun-toting, Bible-bashing, 'flyover country', without which your nation could be very modern and progressive (albeit separated into two discontinuous territories) - it's hardly obvious that it was a wise buy.

Perhaps the biggest issue here is that Denmark probably won't want to sell. But if the price is right...

And of course, if the Trump administration continues in its powerful support for the coal industry, they are setting up for Greenland to become a very valuable territory indeed - Who doesn't want a beachfront property on a nice warm island with vast areas of unclaimed farmland in the interior? You could move the population of Florida and the modern-day state of Louisiana there when those states are engulfed by the rising ocean.

Why would we want to? It might have potential for mining rare earth elements which I think is currently limited to China and Afghanistan. Is there a military defense angle?

That, and the economic boom in the Arctic as the northwest passage opens for regular shipping. Good way to piss off our northern neighbors as well, as they would have an American state or territory in basically every direction. Ancient dominance symbol, surrounding your enemy physically. Normally this wouldn't be a good thing, but Trump and his buddies hate Canada and are happy when they're sad.

NO!!!!! You fools!!!!

This is a classic opening tactic in bargaining and you've now just started haggling with The Great Negotiator (PBUH). You're now going to end up with your country sold for cents on the dollar and will then be spending the next ten years trying to get him on the phone so you can ask when he'll actually pay you.

It's your own damn fault for falling into such an obvious trap, though.

Once again you libtards are trying to bring down the strongest, most accomplished President there ever was. Once again he's miles ahead of you, laughing as you fume and rant impotently -- and you have completely missed the Grand Plan. Greenland will be the best and biggest ICE detention center of them all -- WH staffers call it MegaGitmo. With endless acreage, it can absorb every last illegal, every rapist, killer, kidnapper, and dope fiend and they won't be heard from again. Just see if NPR or MSNBC get clearance to visit. Not gonna happen. We're gonna have the Kalaallit as security staff, which will mean virtually 0% unemployment, or the lowest Kalaallit unemployment in the history of the world. What the hell do they have to lose? And you're welcome. Thule Air Base has already installed some prototype prisoner barracks. Halliburton technicians have created the first all-lichen MREs, so the whole damn thing is holistic, organic, no-gluten, and self-sustaining. Did I use enough libtard words to win you over? Oh -- best of all -- we will put the inmates to work building a giant retaining wall to hold the glaciers in. Again, you're welcome. Camp Hillary and Camp Omar will be the two biggest settlements, but there will be plenty more to come. Give Trump four more years, and you'll see all this start to happen in early '21.

Once global warming really gets going, Greenland should become desirable real estate. Maybe we can make an offer on Canada as well ...

But your idea about rare earths is not bad. Even without the issue of acquiring Greenland, the World needs to diversify the supply of these metals and not be so dependent on China for them. I have not heard anything about Greenland having sizable deposits though.

The world has 500 years' worth of rare earth reserves outside China. (Mostly Brazil and Vietnam.) There's a lot of production in Australia and Russia, a little in the U.S., and other countries are starting to come online too in reaction to China exercising its market power. Other than short-term issues, world dependence on China is a myth. China dominates the industry because it's the low-cost producer, not because "rare earths" are rare. They aren't.

Canada may be willing to sell you Quebec. After the Quebec separatist referendum a while back, the rest of Canada has been waiting for our turn to vote on if we want to keep Quebec.

Very interesting. I didn't know that. Only the idea that China can currently put pressure on Japan by cutting off supply.

Here's some info on Greenland:
Greenland’s Unique Kvanefjeld Multi-element Rare Earth Project -
The project comprises three linked deposits (Kvanefjeld itself, Zone 3 and Sørensen). These three deposits contain 1 billion tonnes of mineralised ore. The predominant mineral is steenstrupine, which hosts both rare earths and uranium in significant quantities.
...
In total the three deposits contain approximately 270,000 tonnes of uranium and 11 million tonnes of rare earth oxide.

According to this article, Top Rare Earth Reserves by Country, China has 44 MMT followed by Brazil and tiny Vietnam with 22 MMT each.
