No. It's simply the difference between an actual belief and a belief claim.

I can make lots of claims. I can claim I have enough money to pay one-million dollars for an ice cream cone, that I have enough money to have anything I could ever want or need or know. I have not kept up with all the recent exchanges but that sure is a bizzaro inquiry, don't you think? Is this the kind of stuff that "religious" people talk about? That said I did do a bit of journalism at one time.

So the answer is that it would depend on context. Were there lots of new mothers claiming to be hyenas and so the story would have some relevancy? Or am I writing for the National Inquirer, in which case sure, I'd write the story and submit it to the editor. It's all about readership and money at that point in this hypothetical world you've invented.

I have no problem speaking with a transgendered person in whatever manner they prefer. It's no skin off my nose. That hardly compares to a person claiming to be a hyena. Transgendering is a matter of biology, hormones, etc. It's verifiable, quantifiable, and certainly harms no one that I can think of. Must be the logical positivist in me.

But a person claiming to be a hyena is certainly not a hyena, though in all honesty I could have a constructive conversation and existence with said person nonetheless, depending of course on their own level of cognition. Might be interesting.

The immaterial mind can not be replaced by cells. This proves it's beyond nature. Just think why you were born into your body and not someone else's. No reason in a natural world why "you" were born in this time period and not some other time period. Why didn't we have different parents? Why do you believe we only get one life if you popped up randomly here in this life? Why can't you pop up randomly again in thousands of years?

But is it the same mind?

How do you know a mind is a thing that doesn't change? I'm not the same person I was at 17. If there was a way to put him and I both into the same room together, I don't know how well I'd even relate with that person. But, point is, it wouldn't be the same mind talking with itself. It'd be two different people with the same DNA-structure and similar looks and the same basic personality tendencies (not same personality). Very like a being whose cells not only changed over, but whose mind did as well along with those physical changes.

Even if the mind were different from the body (and maybe as an emergent phenomenon it is), that doesn't mean it's unchanging or anything else than temporal and contingent too, like the body with which it correlates.

You imagine the mind is a thing in and of itself. And since you can't point at this thing apart from a body and say "there it is", you say it's a spirit. And then, because a religious tradition says so, you assume that spirits last forever. There's no evidence for this at all.
