Ex-QAnon

There are people who believe in all sorts of weird conspiracies. There is the Q-anon advocates, 9-11 truthers, and several on this forum who 'knew' that Trump and Putin colluded together in the 2016 election.

We also have some on this forum who bought into the Scientology nonsense.

Scientology is not a conspiracy theory movement. It's a manipulative cult. All it takes to become a victim of this type of organization is to be naive. Right wing nut job conspiracy theories appeal to hatred, fear, insecurity, and prejudice. They prey on more than just ignorance and naivete.

The PR bait of cults like scientology is about altruism and goodness, and these cults tend to attract decent, trusting people, not idiots looking for someone to beat up and dominate to help them compensate for their mediocrity and tiny dicks.

Hell, there are some on this forum who think Trump is a good President.

I didn't answer the question because it is such an asininely stupid question. It is based on an idiotic assumption.

The idiotic assumption being that Trump had no idea that Uncle Vlad was trying to help him out, never tried to establish backchannels, never asked Russia to hack Dems' emails, never ...
Yeah, that's not just an idiotic assumption, it's fucking delusional.

Agents Of Chaos - HBO

Agents of Chaos, a two-part documentary from director Alex Gibney (HBO’s The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley and Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief) examines Russia’s interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Featuring interviews with key players and experts, classified information leaked by inside sources, and more, the film disentangles the complex details of Russia’s interference in the 2016 election and highlights the frightening vulnerabilities in America’s political process.

The film is a product of years of reporting. With never-before-seen footage inside the Russian troll farms, and videos unearthed from the Russian deep web, the film digs deep into Russia’s sophisticated plans to undermine democracy, raising the alarm for the American public, but also proving that these “agents of chaos” weren’t Russians alone; they were also key players in the United States who, through venality, corruption or circumstance, furthered Putin’s goals, with a vulnerable and unsuspecting American public as their target.

You apparently didn't read the question that was being asked. The question was, "So do you also think that Trump tricked the Democrats into conspiring against him so he could out Russian agents or do you stop before taking it that far?" This asinine question is in the same vein as asking, "Do you fuck your mother because she likes it or is it that you fuck her because you really like it too?"

Yeah, that's the ticket. ;) So give us an example of someone who fell for QAnon for altruistic reasons, and an example of someone who joined scientology because it demonized outgroups.

You can't, because there is a real and glaring difference. But then again, how would you know? How would you recognize someone who was fooled because of their desire to do good and not for their desire to punish outgroups?

Do you really see scientology as altruistic and caring? They break up families by not allowing their members to associate with "Suppressive People" (those who do not support their 'teachings'). They squeeze members for every dime they can get out of them. etc. I, personally, have never considered cults to be based on altruistic principles.... And yes, Scientology demonizes "Suppressive People".

QAnon are nutty conspiracy theorists but, using your standards, they could be called caring because they think they are trying to save the country and everyone in it except for "those trying to destroy the country".

Not even close to what I said.

Scientology attracts people because it pretends to be good and altruistic and reasonable and goodness and equality for all, etc., etc., appealing to people who truly want those things for themselves and others. That's the first line of manipulation. From there, after years of gaslighting, deception, fear mongering, and hijacking of numerous cognitive and emotional human weaknesses, people find themselves far from that ideal that first attracted them. I call scientology a machine that produces right wing authoritarian followers. It indoctrinates authority worship, us vs. them mentality, a sense of moral superiority, of being above ordinary society's rules and laws, a mistrust and contempt of outsiders, insistence on conformity, and a goal of becoming so widespread as to be the dominant ideology.

QAnon and the Trump cult do not attract people who want world peace and the well being of all people. They do not attract those kinds of hearts and minds. They appeal to people who are looking for a strong man to dominate the culture they've been conditioned to hate and fear. QAnon and Trump appeal to people's animal brain fear aggression and insecurities. People love trump and the various white supremacist groups and movements because they do not want all people to do well. They very specifically want some groups of people to suffer, to be punished, to be diminished, controlled, imprisoned and/or eradicated.

This is not fucking rocket science. It's not even controversial to anyone at all except maybe people whose minds are totally subsumed to an ideology of hate.

You're kind of missing my point. I don't really care about the altruism, outgroups, aspects. I was just agreeing with skepticalbip that there are a lot of various kooky groups that believe a bunch of stupid shit. Scientology being one of the kooky groups that some people here have bought into.

Actually, a lot of people have fallen for groups like scientology, intelligent, educated, decent people of humane values. And my point is that those people do not fall for QAnon or the trump cult. Bigotry ideologies attract our least intelligent, least aware, least educated, least kind, least sensitive, and least honest among us.

I know you and a few others here do not like hearing that, but it is an important point. IT ISN'T ABOUT NAIVETE OR DUMBNESS OR GULLIBILITY ALONE. QAnon attracts the lowlifes and assholes among us. As much as you would like to believe that you - ahem, I mean all those other people who fall for QAnon and white supremacy cults ;) - are different from people who don't find hate and bigotry appealing, it's the truth. Die mad about it. :)

And I know damn well why both of you want to pretend the lure of scientology is no different from the lure of hate ideology, and that this thread has triggered you to defensiveness. You really think you're fooling anyone here?
