Michigan militia members arrested for planning kidnap of Governor Whitmire

Hitler’s Holocaust Started With Death Of One Journalist In 1932. Hitler Called Journalists “The Lying Press”. President Trump Has Called Journalists “The Lying Press” and “Enemies of the People”
2 Weeks Ago An American Journalist Had His Fingers Cut Off One By One, Then His Arms Were Cut Off, Then His Legs. All While He Was Alive. His Head Was Then Cut Off By Saudi Killers Wearing Headphones Who Listened to Music While They Butchered Him ☠️
President Trump Said: “Not An American Citizen, None Of Our Business” and “Saudi Prince Denied It Strongly. He is Innocent”.

Now Trump uses State TV and the unwitting media to tell his proxy goons to go kidnap/murder a politician who oppose him.
When his goons get caught he attacks that politician publicly and viciously... no repercussions. The Trump clowns were playing in the street again today right here in my own town.

I had thought that Hitler first went after (murdered or had murdered) a politician or two very early on? I'm not a scholar on his rise, so lots of the parallels probably escape me.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – The attorney for one of six men indicted in a plot to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said Friday, Aug. 13 that an FBI special agent told an informant to lie and to delete text messages between them.

Attorney Michael Hills, representing Brandon Caserta, asked a federal judge to order the government provide all communications between a paid informant, identified only as “Dan,” and the FBI.

They tried to kidnap a governor?

That's nothing. Did you hear that Obama had a birthday party?! And that's not all. He does it once every fucking year.

interesting old interview with a still respected Charlie Rose about the FBI and entrapment etc...

damn, well it plays on youtube

That's crazy!! We don't even know if he was even born!! You just know that birth certificate he showed was a fake and I heard Donald Trump say that he has agents in Hawaii digging up amazing things!!!

I just noticed this thread and some of my reaction is to long-ago posts.

First, I think Mr. Harvestdancer was obviously mistreated. He posted contradictory statements from 'Net opinions, noted that they contradicted each other, and suggested that the correct story was not yet visible with certainty. And was then attacked for posting contradictory statements! Posters who disagree with Jason's opinions do not do "their side" credit when they deliberately misconstrue his posts and then indulge in faulty attacks on him.

Since we inexplicably have thread necro going on, it might be a good time to point out the heavy FBI involvement in making this almost happen. Once again the FBI saved us from an FBI plot.

I clicked to the YouTube that repoman linked to; it provides a balanced view of FBI sting operations.

America has many hate-filled extremists (mostly Islamist or on the right) who would like to perform acts of terrorism. The Oklahoma bombing reminds us that even some of the stupidest and low-budget would-be terrorists do succeed.

FBI sting operations are a logical way to intercept would-be terrorists. These operations have probably thwarted some attacks. The sting targets are not selected randomly: they are people who have shown a desire to commit acts of terrorism.

The Charlie Rose video from 8 years ago was a remarkable demonstration that even within recent memory rational debate was possible! It pitted a pro-sting former FBI officer against an anti-sting book author; the two were respectful and friendly to each other. During such stings, the FBI offers the target multiple chances to back down. ("Are you sure you want to go through with this?") The anti-Sting author points out that many targets have psychological problems and/or are financially desperate. But might there not have been a bad outcome had the desperate disturbed individual been targeted by a master terrorist instead of the FBI?

Since 2001 there have been few mass-casualty terrorist attacks on American soil. (Exceptions include the Trump-led Jan. 6 insurrection.) Americans have the FBI to thank for that.

ETA: There was also a suggestion in the thread that at least one of the would-be Whitmer kidnappers was a false-flagger because he posted anti-Trump rants. Nonsense! Click the link to learn that he is a red-neck hater opposed to ALL establishment figures.

Man sentenced to 6 years in plot to kidnap Michigan governor

ug 25 (Reuters) - A man who pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a plot to kidnap Michigan's governor received a sentence of just over six years in prison on Wednesday, after he also agreed to testify against fellow extremists in the "Wolverine Watchmen" militia who have been accused in the conspiracy.

Ty Garbin, 25, was the first to be convicted of scheming to abduct Gretchen Whitmer, the state's first-term Democratic governor, from her vacation home last summer. Since the FBI said it uncovered the conspiracy by members of a militia group, more than a dozen men have been charged in state or federal court.

U.S. District Judge Robert Jonker in Grand Rapids handed down the sentence of 75 months Wednesday afternoon. Prosecutors had sought a nine-year prison sentence for Garbin, who cooperated with the government.

I'd like to see the rest of them get 25 to life.
Scumbag traitors...

This case seems to be too close to entrapment to get convictions. The guy who pled guilty may be regretting it now.

Defense attorneys portrayed their clients as credulous weekend warriors prone to big, wild talk, who were often stoned. They said FBI undercover agents and informants tricked and cajoled the men into agreeing to a conspiracy.
Yeah, I remember a whole bunch of those weekend warriors amassing on the US Capitol Bldg one day.

The defense in these cases is always going to be FBI incitement. And the prosecution is always going to be that these people wanted to commit this crime.

And, unfortunately, all too often the FBI goes too far in inciting the crime. They take real but unfocused hatred and direct it--and tend to go too far.

I love that these clowns are crying "entrapment," insinuating they'd have never entertained these shenanigans left to their own devices, but rather were roped into it by teh evil authorities who planted these ideas in their heads, and encouraged them.

Stupid fucks.

No amount of "encouragement" from anyone could make me strap on an AR-15, start making homemade bombs, and actively plan to kidnap the governor or my (or any) state, ever, for any reason.

This^^^^

Entrapment for tiny stuff, like hooking or selling a bag of pot, yeah.

Violent overthrow of the government? Sorry buddy, you're fucked.
Tom

Yeah. The cops often do try to encourage people to turn abstract plans into concrete ones so they can make the bust but when someone steps way over the line I don't care. Now, there are some very problematic cases--they've taken to making a scene in leaving bait cars so the criminals clearly know the car is stealable--but all too often setting up situations where good samaritans hop in to move the car out of the way.
