The Supreme Court of the United States has announced they'll be hearing their first major 2nd Amendment case since tossing precedence out of the window in their landmark Heller v DC case.

The question, can the Government restrict possession of weapons on their turf, specifically, are Americans provided the inalienable right to concealed carry.

So it comes down to where is a citizen not allowed to conceal carry a weapon for "protection". The argument is, what good is having a gun for protection, if you can't carry it for protection. If Nick Fury's father carried a gun to protect his tips, why not everyone else?

Sure the heck to me, I'd be possibly okay with conceal carry being a thing, if it required actual training and field tested accuracy. Wanting to carry a concealed weapon shouldn't be enough to justify being allowed to conceal carry a weapon. Why anyone would shrug to the potential public health risk of idiots with guns and the Government's lack of reasonable interest in it is beyond my imagination.

You are allowed to carry COVID-19 and walk around spreading it to anyone and everyone around you without any personal liability. You have no control over who may live or die as a result of that exposure. Properly carrying a gun in a concealed manner is far safer than breathing in public.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong. My understanding on the stats is concealed carry laws have not been followed by huge increases in gun related incidents.

Regardless, if people want to carry a weapon for the use of protection, they should be required to prove adequacy both in using the weapon and using the weapon in public.

I’m vaccinated against idiot carrying Covid.

Do you suppose they will rule to expand gun 'rights', then try to packpedal when those same rights are used to get rid of screenings at congress, in courts, airports, etc.....?

Exactly. The crime rate of CCW permit holders is below the crime rate of police. And note that many of their crimes are crimes of carry--not concealing it well enough, carrying where it's not permitted. (The latter isn't always obvious. Some states say you can't carry in a business that sells alcohol--bars and the like are obvious, but sometimes it's not obvious a store sells alcohol.)

You are not vaccinated against the GROUP of idiots that are not vaccinated and passing the mutating virus all around their group until it mutates sufficiently to pop out of their group and evade your immunity.

Well, those people got covid when it was new and not as strong as it is now with B.1.1.7 variant. Not a bad tradeoff if you look at Michigan which is a fresh field on uninfected people with a faster spreading variant. The Red areas have lots of well rounded antibodies from natural infections.

But most of those Red places also have lots more sun going into spring compared to Michigan so it is not a fair comparison.
