This really is heartbreaking;

An elderly woman with dementia sat in a jail cell without medical care for six hours and cried out for help 51 times in the first hour alone while cops 10 just feet away laughed at an arrest video that showed them breaking her arm. In the first hour alone, Karen Garner, 73, screamed: 'They hurt my shoulders' 22 times, 'They hurt my wrists' 13 times, 'They keep hurting' eight times and 'It hurts' eight times, according to an amended lawsuit against the city of Loveland police department filed earlier this week and audio that can be heard from a security camera.

Just looking at the poor woman in the video you can tell she is not right. A friend of mine's father had dementia and he would occasionally go in to a local convenience store and "shoplift" a few bars of candy. The store owner and his staff were aware of the situation and handled it by calling my friend to let him know his dad was out and about and my friend would pay for the small amounts of candy or return it.

I read about this and was so sickened. And fuck Walmart! Not only was this a trivial amount of merchandise but they took it from her, so there was no 'theft' but a different article claims that the store refused to allow her to pay for the items when she walked out without paying. I NEVER shop at Walmart and never will but IMO, Walmart should be subject to a lawsuit as well.

A lawsuit for what? A policy that if they catch a shoplifter the shoplifter can't get out of it by simply paying?

Sorry, but the real problem here is that someone like this was living unsupervised. Her daughter being able to see her house isn't enough for a dementia patient!

DC cop cars totaled after officers drag race in NE, says commander

WASHINGTON (FOX 5 DC) - Two D.C. police cars were totaled after officers decided to drag race each other, according to an internal email obtained exclusively by FOX 5’s Lindsay Watts.

"Yesterday two 6D scout cars were totaled because officers decided instead of fighting crime, patrolling their beats, or engaging the community – they decided to drag race each other on Anacostia Avenue at 5 pm in the evening," reads the email from 6D Commander Durriyyah Habeebullah.

Sources say the email was sent to command staff following the crash Thursday.

"What does this say to all the members of MPD who are passionate about their job and work hard every day to make a difference. This is not fair to any of us," the email goes on to say.

Regular folks get caught drag racing they go to jail.

It's very common for people with early stage dementia to be living alone with periodic supervision from family. When my mom was in the early stages of dementia, she walked to a local grocery store for a cup of tea and a pastry almost every single day. Luckily, she never forgot to pay for her snacks. She was living with my sister but at that point, she didn't require 24 hour supervision.

From what I've read, it didn't sound like the woman's dementia had reached the point where she required 24 hour supervision. I don't think it's necessarily Walmart's problem, but the way that the cops treated this older woman certainly could justify a lawsuit. It should have been obvious to the cops that she was frail and not completely mentally competent. They broke her shoulder and then laughed about it. How fucking stupid and mean can a cop be! It sounds as if she forgot to pay for a few items. She wasn't a danger to anyone. And, maybe if someone had called the manager at Walmart, he or she might have realized that the woman was very forgetful and perhaps this could have been settled without calling the police.

I just saw this online and I think it probably deserves its own thread.

It is very disturbing. Is Mario mentally ill? Why were the police digging knees and elbows into his back while interrogating him for minutes? As he screams and crap...then, after being told there is no pulse, why were idiotic cops (not all cops--just those there) saying "Wake up, Mario?" That is so ridiculous and offensive; he was dead, not asleep.

To say they learned nothing from the George Floyd case, I don't think is quite true because they did check his pulse and they did try to apply medical aid upon there being no pulse. But what they didn't seem to learn is de-escalation and being open-minded to try different tactics in the interest of his life and safety.

There is zero evidence that the woman intentionally shoplifted.

FFS, if that were the standard, I should have been shot dead in a shopping mall parking lot years ago! Trust me: I unintentionally shoplifted more than once—and went back when I discovered my mistake to pay for or return merchandise. BTW I was a long way from having dementia at the time.

But as always, your sense of magnitude and compassion never fail to astonish me.

That video doesn't really show anything. They just drove down a suburban street and pulled into a driveway. Big whoop!
The prosecutor is saying that Brown drove into deputies. If that's the case, he was using the car as a deadly weapon and the shooting would have been justified.
