Covid-19 miscellany

The anti lockdown protests are getting quite violent now.

Meanwhile thousands of young people ignore the fear mongering and propaganda and start living their lives again;

Thousands of revellers descended on the festival site for the third day of Latitude on Saturday as music lovers dived into a lake, took part in yoga or listened to their favourite bands.

Sorry to damper your bloodlust, but the attendees had to provide proof of vaccination or negative test to enter.

Encouraging news from England;

Britain's daily coronavirus cases have fallen for a fourth day in a row with a 41 per cent drop on last week, fuelling growing hopes of a sustained fall despite warnings that a third wave could surge again next week.

Time to disband the ministry of truth, aka SAGE.

Do others also use this excellent 91-divoc.com page, with its graphic presentation of Covid stats?

Set the source to "John Hopkins University CSSE" and see this recent Wednesday at 67,114 new cases in U.K., their 2nd highest number ever behind only January 8 (68,192). Yes, that's just New Cases over a 24-hour period.

When the source is set to "Our world in data (Oxford et al)" it shows 54,183 new cases in U.K. July 17, down to 36,093 Saturday, behind only the U.S., Brazil and Indonesia in absolute number.

Using the John Hopkins source, scroll to the middle of the page for a normalized graph "New cases per day (1-wk average) per 100,000" and see that U.K. is tied with Botswana for #1 in the world, though only slightly ahead of Netherlands.

TL;DR: I'd wait before gloating about U.K. overcoming the latest wave of the pandemic.

My wife tells me from her sources — though Google doesn't show this yet — that the Thai government has suddenly announced that it will not allow private hospitals to dispense Moderna vaccine! (We've already paid $390 in advance for three Moderna vaccinations.) But Thai governments have a habit of announcing stupid policies they've not thought out, listening to the reaction, then quickly retracting their own stupidest ideas — so maybe this story will be obsolete by tomorrow!

But this is a matter of concern for us: My wife and I are both in high-risk groups; and as a foreigner I am ineligible for government vaccination. We were happy that our area had zero cases for many months, but cases are now reported just a few miles from our home. Our province is setting up a field hospital for more beds.
That sounds bad. But also a bit odd. Which means do they use for the announcements? Is it some kind of official bulletin?

Anyway, I hope you can soon get Sinopharm shots at least. Eventually, you'll probably get Moderna too, because given time, there will be enough vaccines for everyone, but having a mediocre vaccine that at least usually prevents serious illness is much better than no vaccine.

They call the generation that made incredible sacrifices in order to win WW2 the "Greatest Generation". I wonder what they call the generation of today that refuses to make any compromise to help today?
I'm reminded of the slave-plantation owners in the Civil War who didn't want to do very much for the war effort. They said that the Confederate government requisitioning grain made them feel enslaved.

Is that a genuine Macron quote, telling anti-vaxxers to stay home? There are online stories that it's a bogus quote.

You think he spoke in English?!?! The question is whether that is an accurate translation.
Many regards, professor. Yes, how could I have forgotten that Macron, a French national, born in France, raised in France, and President of France, speaks French? I mean, looking at it now, it's so obvious. Obvious. Now quick, tell the Christians that Jesus actually spoke Aramaic.

My daughter who works at Dunking Donuts learned today that a co-worker who had lied that she was vaccinated and was working there unmasked has tested positive for Covid. She was serving customers unvaccinated without a mask and working around other employees including my daughter.

My daughter is fully vaccinated but is still getting a test tomorrow as must all employees but if she is sick, she has been around my boys who got their second shot 5 days ago.

The store manager told all employees to get tested. He told his boss at corporate. This boss told him to tell the higher up that an employee has tested positive but this corporate person has told the store manager to withhold the fact that the employee who tested positive lied, was not vaccinated and was not wearing a mask while working.

Once again I'm furious!

All the other employees are furious and will be calling HR to tell the complete story.

So just to be safe, my daughter is sleeping in the tent tonight and possibly tomorrrow. Her driver's ed may have to be called off.

And mostly I am worried for my boys. They couldn't start their vaccinations until they got back from Canada. I started it the day that they got home.

French are protesting against C19 passports. What is interesting is that medical workers are protesting against mandatory vaccination too.
French just love protesting.

Ordinary people are protesting against the draconian lockdown measures in Australia;
Thousands of angry, unmasked people marched through the Sydney central business district on Saturday afternoon demanding an end to the city’s lockdown, which is entering its fifth week.

After protesters were dispersed, the New South Wales police minister, David Elliott, announced the formation of a strike force to identify each of the 3,500 protesters at the “super spreader” event.

“It was just a whole lot of halfwits.”

https://www.theguardian.com/austral...-covid-cases-surge-to-record-levels-in-sydney

That’s right, people exercising their right to peacefully protest against state tyranny are “half wits” and the state will hunt them down. This should send chills down the spine of most people but it is admired by left wing authoritarians. The good news is that these protests are growing in number, frequency and occurring all over the place.

While these half wits were busy protesting, a thirty year old woman with no pre-existing conditions was dying in the Intensive Care ward of the nearby Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. She was one of two fatalities in New South Wales yesterday (the other was a woman in her 70s who died at Campbelltown Hospital), bringing the state's total deaths from Covid to 62, eight of which have occurred during this year's outbreak.

Thanks to the very measures these half wits were protesting against, Australia has amongst the lowest fatality and sickness rates from Covid in the entire world. Tens of thousands of lives have been saved by these restrictions, so it seems that "half wits" is a fairly mild bit of understatement with regards to their moronic and reckless behaviour.

By the way, Australia isn't America, and these people did not have, and therefore could not exercise, any "right to peacefully protest". They were wilfully breaking the law, and organisers had been warned by NSW police that their proposed protest was unlawful.

The US Constitution doesn't have any validity at all in New South Wales.

Private hospitals are not allowed to buy vaccines independently, IIUC. All vaccine imports require government permission.

My wife turned down a Sinovac jab without asking my advice. :( (I'd have advised that any jab is better than nothing. Maybe I'm wrong: she has to worry about interaction with her cancer treatment.)

Frightening rumors abound. I just got off the phone with a Brit who lives near me. He tells of camps with migrant workers (Burmese etc.) which are quarantined and not supplied with food; temples in Bangkok which are asked to cremate large numbers of unidentified bodies; dead bodies abandoned for hours on the sidewalks of Bangkok; etc. Government has been caught in multiple lies. A few days ago, protesters in Bangkok were attacked with tear gas and water cannons.

With a nearby village under lock-down, and us with no way to get vaccine, I am frightened for self and family.

Foreigners may be eligible for vaccine in some provinces or districts, but not ours. Checking the rules for such vaccines I see that one District will vaccinate foreigners over the age of 75, IF they have a work permit. (Duuuh. Most 75-year olds are retired and lack a work permit.)

Nope, in Australia we call them dumb cunts. Fuck the lot of them.

Anybody else find it ironic that sensible measures during a pandemic are considered authoritarian, yet fuckwits who are anti mask or anti vax are so because the right wing leaders told them to be?

At least two atheist activist YouTubeers I watch have made pandemic related videos. Guess the creationists idiots are talking more about that then their usual stupidity

I think I understand.

Believing the scientists about a virus might mean they are right about stuff like climate change and evolution.

LA man who mocked Covid-19 vaccines dies of virus

A California man who mocked Covid-19 vaccines on social media has died after a month-long battle with the virus.

Stephen Harmon, a member of the Hillsong megachurch, had been a vocal opponent of vaccines, making a series of jokes about not having the vaccine.

"Got 99 problems but a vax ain't one," the 34-year-old tweeted to his 7,000 followers in June.

He was treated for pneumonia and Covid-19 in a hospital outside Los Angeles, where he died on Wednesday.

In the days leading up to his death, Mr Harmon documented his fight to stay alive, posting pictures of himself in his hospital bed.

"Please pray y'all, they really want to intubate me and put me on a ventilator," he said.

In his final tweet on Wednesday, Mr Harmon said he had decided to go under intubation.

"Don't know when I'll wake up, please pray," he wrote.

Despite his struggle with the virus, Mr Harmon still said he would reject being jabbed, saying his religious faith would protect him.

Talk radio host Phil Valentine mocked the vaccination with a parody song “The Vaxman”. He insisted that he wasn’t at risk of serious illness from Covid. He was “taking vitamin D like crazy” and had a scrip for Ivermectin. He is currently in critical care and getting worse.
