I wonder what the excuse will be.

I have an idea that will increase the safety of both the general public & officers while helping in the apprehension/death of real criminals. If innocent surrender your rights upon the officer's request and you MIGHT live. If you're a criminal on the other hand run, and you're definitely done. Now, what we should do for the mentally challenged/disabled (or whatever word doesn't offened) is anyone else's guess but I suggest we deputize them all so officers don't kill them. Their interpersonal skills and the ability to deescalate are already in lockstep with a substantial number of the current police force.
 
Five Miami Beach cops charged after pummeling two men in hotel lobby. Video released

Five Miami Beach police officers were hit with criminal charges on Monday for using excessive force on a man in handcuffs and for pummeling a bystander who was videotaping the incident on his cellphone.

Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle, with Miami Beach Police Chief Richard Clements at her side, announced the charges after showing a four-minute video clip in which 21 officers descend on a man they chased into a South Beach hotel, who is alleged to have hit an officer with his motor scooter.

In the video, one officer repeatedly kicks the handcuffed man in the head, before another officer picks him up and slams his head to the ground. A short while later a group of officers redirect their attention to a man videotaping the incident. He’s soon slammed into a concrete pillar, then repeatedly punched and elbowed in the head and rib cage while on the ground.

There have been cases where the person "resisting" had no idea they were doing so and there have been cases where they had no idea their "attacker" was the police.

An officer was injured therefore the officers are authorized to retaliate tenfold. They just don't have the legal backing and Mr. Floyd brought about more accountability so the officers are up shits creek.

The man the were looking for in the domestic disturbance call... was not the man with the dog. They had the wrong person.
 
Police leave disabled Colorado woman with nearly $1,600 toll bill after using her stolen license plate

A 52-year-old Westminster woman with back problems faces $1,592.72 in E-470 toll charges because the president of the Colorado Fraternal Order of Police, who also headed the narcotics unit of the Longmont Police Department, used a stolen license plate that comes back as registered to her.

The state has barred the woman, Debra Romero, from renewing the registration for her car, which expired in May, until she pays off the unpaid tolls she didn’t accrue. She said she’s left with no car to drive and has had to rely on her two children to drive her to her appointments with a doctor as she considers undergoing her third back surgery.

Cop sees dogs that he doesn't know if they are vicious. Leaps out of the safety of his vehicle & shoots the dog because he didn't feel safe. Welp folks there you have it, it was the dog's fault for appearing aggressive. The cop had no idea if the dog was nice or not, plus it should have been on a leash (all of which the cop could have confirmed or had done from the safety of his vehicle using the built-in megaphone).

Me neither. The tail-wagging should have given it away. I was speaking sarcastically.
 
I mean if you think about it if I discharged my weapon and killed an actually vicious dog id most likely have to explain how it was my only option. But cops? Nope, whatever reason they gave is accepted as their only option (most of the time). I see excuses given for them like "it's easy to speak in hindsight! You don't know what that officer felt in that moment". I get that, my issue is I'd be investigated like a mutha fucka and highly likely thrown in jail for shooting their dog after facing hindsight-based charges. It's how the fucking law works!
