US rent moratorium expired

So don’t punish the landlords.

The money is ultimately for the landlords.
Not this landlord. No help for the small fry landlord in Missouri. No help for a lot of other landlords mentioned in OP either.

Trausti is exactly right. And most interesting of all is that it's the Democrats who seem to be in favor of further wiping out the middle class.
Where do you get that? The moratorium is not extended, so all those deadbeats can be evicted.

And most interesting of all is that it's the Democrats who seem to be in favor of further wiping out the middle class.

How else to explain their bending over backwards to apologize for the violation of rule of law?

Heh. For four years they brayed about the threat of a fascist dictator. Now following the rule of law is for losers.

How else to explain their bending over backwards to apologize for the violation of rule of law? People can be poor and they can be rich without violence. It is when the government steps in to create unfair conditions when the public becomes ripe for revolution.

Democrat Joe Biden’s Democrat administration made available funds to the states. Your Republican Missouri government has these federal dollars earmarked for landlords. It is up to Missouri Republicans to disburse it. If they are not doing that it is because Republicans are dicks.

Go to the DoT link I posted above. Help your tenants apply. It includes back rent owed.

Because you're ignorant of the help available doesn't mean it's not there.

^^ This ^^

And they want you to blame the dems.

Glad to hear this. I hope they can make haste to distribute the COVID funds that were intended for these needy Americans.

Agreed! But I'd only give covid funds to people who can demonstrate that they are vaccinated.

I really like this idea! You don't get help if you're part of the problem.

Yes, it's for landlords as well as for tenants.

Though right-wingers might say about that "Oh, no! They won't be victims anymore!"

AOC credited her staff people and the other Congresspeople's staff members for also helping out. It's so nice to see non-egotistical leadership.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter: "💯%. On Capitol Hill, the norm in staff culture is to advise to pull back, not push, & be cautious.

They should not be punished. The states need to get off their duffs and make these federal dollars they’re holding available without undue burden.

The focus should not be on those renters who would take advantage of the situation by simply not paying their rent, being deadbeats. During times of crisis it should be on getting the money out there and if it’s practical to do so, going after the deadbeats after the fact.

Democratic Congressmember Rashida Tlaib is calling on House Democrats to return recent contributions from real estate tycoon George Marcus, who recently donated $1 million to the House Majority PAC just weeks before Democratic lawmakers failed to extend the eviction moratorium.

Also has a picture of Cori Bush on the House steps. She is in a lawn chair as is someone else nearby. She has a thick blanket on her and near her are packages of snacks and pillows and water bottles and backpacks and the like.

I guess such a basic stunt is all it takes to cause the Biden administration to do something he knows is illegal.

Biden’s eviction moratorium defies the rule of law
Chicago Sun Times said:
The administration issued the order even while conceding that it lacked the Authority to do so.
The day before the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention imposed a new eviction moratorium last week, the Biden administration conceded that the agency had no legal authority to do so.
The fact that Joe Biden was unfazed by that crucial point does not bode well for a president who was supposed to restore respect for the rule of law.
“To date,” White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said in an Aug. 2 press release, “CDC Director Rochelle Walensky and her team have been unable to find legal authority for a new, targeted eviction moratorium.” Senior presidential adviser Gene Sperling used nearly identical language at a press briefing the same day, saying the CDC had concluded it lacked legal authority “even for a more targeted eviction moratorium that would focus just on counties with higher rates of COVID spread.” Walensky nevertheless issued such an order, covering about 90% of the country, the following evening, calling it “the right thing to do to keep people in their homes and out of congregate settings where COVID-19 spreads.” The idea that government officials can ignore the law as long as they are doing “the right thing,” long favored by authoritarians and demagogues, is anathema in a constitutional republic.

The love is overwhelming. My community knows there was no way we were going to let 8,700 of our neighbors—and millions more across our country—be put out of their homes during this pandemic.

It's not their homes. It's somebody else's real estate where they are now living without paying rent.

They should not be punished. The states need to get off their duffs and make these federal dollars they’re holding available without undue burden.
That is not a sustainable solution. The federal government should not be in the business of paying the rent of those who refuse to pay rent themselves.

This policy was probably the right thing to do early in the pandemic when much of the economy was shut down. Now, almost everything is reopened, and those who don't pay rent usually could pay it, just choose not to.
Landlord out $24,000 in rent due to eviction moratorium, says tenants buying boats

Fox News said:
A North Carolina landlord says he is out $24,000 in unpaid rent from tenants, while one renter bought three boats over the course of the eviction moratorium just as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced a new ban that will last until Oct. 3.
[...]
"[The money] was used, they went and bought brand new boats, but I mean, you know in a time of crisis like what we’ve been through, you’re evidently getting money from somewhere, but it’s not getting to me," said Shoup.
[...]
Shoup was legally required to make the $4,500 repair on the residence but said he did not receive any money from the tenants or the government to cover the additional cost.

Evicted, Despite a Federal Moratorium: ‘I Do Not Know What I am Going to Do’
NY Times said:
Ron Scapellato, 54, a landlord in Clark County with 50 units and an air-conditioning business, said he soured on the moratorium after he watched some tenants spend their stimulus checks on new televisions rather than paying back rent. His mortgage and other bills continued to pile up, he said, so he went to court. “I understand that they do not want to throw people out, but I also want my rent,” he said.

The acute crisis has been over for a while really. Yes, there is a δ surge, but it has not lead to the economy being shut down like in Spring/Summer 2020.
We definitely need to be concerned about the deadbeats and freeloaders. Unfortunately, they have an powerful advocate in Cori Bush, because she is one of them.

I’m not much for anecdotes anymore so I kind of skipped all that.

I know how you feel about renters who can not/will not pay. I know the song of Derec. I could have sung it for you without missing a note.

Have you nothing to say of the states who screwed over the landlords by having little to no program in place for landlords to get reimbursed for their lost rent? Not so much as one word of admonishment?

That's Faux Noise.
Doesn't mean that they are lying. And in a NY Times piece supportive of the moratorium has tenants buy new TVs instead of paying rent. Not as brazen as boats, but still shows people misusing the moratorium to freeload.

A tenant that actually did that would be horribly stupid--
That's not an argument that it did not happen. People do stupid things all the damn time.
the eviction moratorium isn't a shield against debt collection.
But the moratorium would have to expire first, before the landlord can even attempt to collect back rent.

I’m not much for anecdotes anymore so I kind of skipped all that.
Barring actual disinterested studies on it, anecdotal data is all we have.

I know how you feel about renters who can not/will not pay.
There is a big difference between "can not" and "will not" pay. Why are you conflating them?
And how do you feel about renters who will not pay?

Have you nothing to say of the states who screwed over the landlords by having little to no program in place for landlords to get reimbursed for their lost rent? Not so much as one word of admonishment?

Of course those funds should be distributed more efficiently. The point is that the moratorium should have been ended months ago, and then these programs would not be needed to this extent.
