Don't be a dick.
Will the Republicans finally cut him loose where he could possibly form his own political party? Double down on his losing ass? Other possibilities?

He will be a spent force -- not MAGA, but him. Age is catching up with the guy. It's just not feasible that he'd be able to run for office in 2028. The bizarre stuff he's saying now -- what would he be talking about in 2028? Taylor Swift's secret baby barbecues? Ty Cobb's scrotum? ("That thing was HYUUUGE. Musta weighed 5 pounds, I'm telling you.") And by '28, he won't be able to do his grandpa dance to the oldies for any 38 minutes.
Even Dracula dies.

They’ll double down.
On a version of MAGA, probably. But ideologyhunter is right: it will be without Trump. If he loses on Tuesday, he won't be relevant going forward. He will be a non-entity for 2026 midterms, much less 2028.

My hope is if he loses, this forum can get back to some sense of sanity. Trump has been living rent-free in the heads of a huge number of posters here for almost 10 years now, and its about time he gets his walking papers. Is there even one forum that hasn't got an OMB (orange man bad) reference shoehorned into it somewhere? Maybe "What jazz are you listening to?", but I even doubt that.

No, he's living rent free in about thirty percent of the voting populace's heads. While that is so, the rest of us need to remain vigilant and keep this perversion of a human out of power.

This is it for him and he knows it.

This is it for him and the GOP knows it.

Trump was able to tap into a large population segment that was disgruntled, but had no interest in voting until this entertaining buffoon came along. Then they felt smarter and even intellectual because they were watching the [Fox] news, reading right wing extremist political websites etc., which game them someone to blame for their disillusions. These people had no philosophic foundation nor the slightest clue about how history shaped this nation and how it shaped the world. Their understanding of things political and philosophical consists of a vague notion about freedom and that America is the only nation where "real" freedom exists.

If Trump is gone, these people will no longer have his personality and attitude to cling to. While he's uniquely abhorrent, he is unique. Where else are you going to find a bizarre looking, broke-ass billionaire with zero shame combined with a loathsome charisma who is willing to say anything no matter how hateful and/or absurd?

The GOP won't die, but it will lose a double digit percentage of its national base. Imagine a Mitt Romney type of Republican running for POTUS in 2028. The current group of zealous empty buckets won't turn out for that.

Republicans will probably try to replicate 2016. They’ll select the next object of adulation from a cast of morons, build them up as a very stable genius, and assign someone new to wipe the drool off their chin.
It will take at least two more election cycles for them to develop a new sales pitch.

Yes. The good news is that without Trump, Trumpism will fade away. Insult Trump all you like, but the fact is that he does have a very strong, albeit perverse, charisma. There is nobody ready to take his place. Some obvious candidates -- DeSantis, Cruz, MTG(!?) -- are despised even by many Trumpists. His sons are obvious laughing-stocks, and Ivanka has an iota of self-respect. Tucker Carlson is the ONLY Trumpist that comes to mind as a possible replacement, but he's more of a stand-up comic than a consummate con-man.

The Trumpism phenomenon really is good fodder for researchers. There are STRONG parallels between Trumpism and Hitlerism but Hitler, despite his huge faults, was actually an intellectual with a genius-level IQ. How a non-intellectual grifter like Trump succeeded at politics as well as he has is truly befuddling.

IF Trump fails in 2024, expect a gradual retreat from the excesses, with a slightly saner Republican Party emerging by the 2030's. This retreat will be hastened by demographics: Trumpism's support is strongest among old people.

Frankly, I sincerely believe that this is Trump’s last stand. Even he has stated that he will not run again. His physical and mental health are deteriorating very badly now and it is impossible that the GQP does not recognize this.

In fact, I believe they are embracing it. It is my belief that should Trump win, he will very rapidly be deposed by his own party, in favor of Vance who deserves ample criticism and vitriol but who is sane, intelligent and 100% willing to sell out anyone and everyone ( see his family, especially his remarks re: his wife and everyone from Appalachia) for his personal shot at power. Backed, of course by Peter Thiel who was not born in the US and so, like Musk, is ineligible to be POTUS. However they are happy to sponsor their own puppets. I am not convinced JD will dance completely to their tune but close enough in the beginning.

At best, if he is re-elected, Trump can expect to stay out of prison, and be trotted out for occasional fund raising activities. He may be allowed to remain in office as a figurehead and might even be allowed to die of natural causes although they’d miss quite the political opportunity if they did not manage to have him die by assassination. That would be a huge fundraising opportunity and chance to further demonize the left that they’d have a hard time passing up. His family might even be able to retain control over the licensing of his image and voice.

If he was sufficiently compliant and If things go well enough, he could expect to die in office and have all the pomp and ceremony of a state funeral. I think he’d like that.

The only upside is that I’m pretty sure that his offspring are not going to be allowed the same access to power as they were in his first term. Those in charge will be intelligent and they have a detailed agenda that will make what is left of Afghanistan seem progressive.

The question really is what and who does JD actually stand for? Will he allow those who brought him to call all the dances? Or try to assert his own agenda, whatever that might be. Occasionally I feel a tiny glimmer of hope that JD might embrace Reagan’s vision as horrific as that was. It was miles more progressive than Project 2025. How times have changed that I see that as the best possible outcome if Trump is re-elected.

That says it all.
Trump is no more a leader than one of his baby blimps is a leader. When he fails again, he will be quickly deflated and put in with the rest of the trash. Unless of course they can have him assassinated. If they can do that, he may for once become more of an asset than a liability to the GQP.

If ( please let it be so!) he loses, they should hope he is sentenced to prison be as it provides excellent opportunity to grift and will allow him to be a martyr. He definitely would be inspired to pen his own version of Letters from Birmingham jail or rather, someone will be procured to pen it for him. If he is not imprisoned, an assassination would serve the same purpose.

Hopefully he just bursts an aneurism when his prison sentence is announced.

I find JD Vance to be as scary as Trump. He's obviously a hypocrite who will do anything for power and that will probably be what we get if Trump wins, as I don't see Trump living out his term, or if he does, it will be obvious that he isn't mentally able to function, as his symptoms of dementia are getting worse, along with his other mental problems.

At first Republicans didn't seem to like Vance, but they are warming up to him now. There are very few decent Republicans left and I doubt any have a chance of being chosen as the nominee in 2028. My horrible governor Kemp might want to run. He's not as bad as Trump but he's Trumpsucker, just like the rest of them.

I don't know. It takes a helluva lot to replace a cult leader with someone else. Other than N Korea where the people have no other choice but to worship whomever is the dear leader, I can't think of any other cult leader being replaced and adored as much as the original. If anyone can think of one I'd love to hear it.

Do you think the Trumpers that voted for Trump would accept Vance as a substitute Trump without causing a ruckus? I don't.
