Israel struck dozens of sites in Syria overnight with airstrikes, despite the Syrian rebel leader, Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, saying his Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) group was not interested in conflict with Israel.

...

Netanyahu justified his announcement of plans to expand Israeli settlements in the part of the Golan Heights the country initially occupied in 1973 “in light of the war and the new front facing Syria” and a desire to double the Israeli population in the area.

“Strengthening the Golan is strengthening the state of Israel, and it is especially important at this time. We will continue to hold on to it, cause it to blossom and settle in it,” he said in the statement.

The UN has called on Israel to withdraw from the buffer zone, which sits between Syria and the Israeli-occupied area.

The UN secretary general, António Guterres, said he was “deeply concerned by the recent and extensive violations of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity”.

France, Germany and Spain have also called on Israel to withdraw from the demilitarised zone.

The UN has said Israel is in violation of a 1974 disengagement agreement between Israel and Syria that established the buffer zone. Israel has said the 1974 disengagement agreement “collapsed” with the fall of the Assad regime government.

Reactions by Israel expansionist apologists must be mixed, between rejoicing by some and declaring anyone critical of this aggression as anti-semitic.

There are a lot of targets in Syria that aren't HST and HST would be happy to see them reduced. I'm going to wait and see what actually blew up.

Nope absolutely everything Israel does is completely 100% justified no matter what and you're not allowed to question it, or you support Hamas (that's what I've been told).

Now Israel will expect a buffer zone for the buffer zone that is no longer a buffer zone because they have no intention of leaving it. I'm sure all it will take is some kid throwing a rock for pretext. Fucking Israel. They're just as bad as Russia.

It is certainly anti-semitic to single Israel out for conducting operations inside Syria.
Several countries, including US, are bombing targets there.
What to Know About the Countries Still Dropping Bombs in Syria
And Turkey has had a much bigger buffer zone in Syrian territory for years.
Turkey-Syria offensive: What are ‘safe zones’ and do they work?

But it figures that you and Teh Grauniad only see a problem when Israel does it. :rolleyesa:

Fucking Israel. They're just as bad as Russia.
Bullshit. They are nowhere close to being as bad as Russia.

US (mainly the zone around Tanf) and Turkey (northern Syria) are controlling far bigger chunks of Syria than the tiny sliver Israel has occupied since Assad fell.

If that principle were true, then every current event news thread saying X did this or that would be racist against X merely because it says X did this or that. It is not racist, however, to mention that such and such is happening in a current event.

...Turkey...

Whataboutism.

Based on your response(s), you seem to have a huge problem admitting that this current event happened and it is wrong.

Again, when Israel is singled out over and over again, that shows bias. What do you think such anti-Israel bias is based on?
Whataboutism.
Inane accusations of "whataboutism" are the last refuge of a hypocrite. Why did you feel it necessary to start a thread about Israel attacking targets inside Syria when so many other counties - including our own - are doing the same?

Israel did launch air attacks against weapons systems that used to belong to the Assad regime forces, yes.
Israel did send ground forces into a tiny sliver of land in the Syrian Golan, yes.
Is that wrong, given the volatile situation in Syria? No.
Is that different than what other countries, incl. US, are doing in Syria right now? No.

So why the one-sided condemnation of Israel?

Israel is not singled out over and over. For example, in the Gaza thread you made, we said Hamas was wrong. And we also said that certain extremists in Israel and certain policies in Israel are wrong. That is not singling out Israel.

What do you think such anti-Israel bias is based on?
Whataboutism.

I am not a hypocrite, Mr. Rule Breaker. You simply cannot admit that Israel is wrong when Israel is wrong. Other people can admit that non-Israel entities, such as Hamas or Iran are wrong, but you cannot admit that Israel is wrong and so you are breaking the rules calling me a hypocrite, creating whataboutism derails, and so forth. We see your terrible arguments for what they are.

Why did you feel it necessary to start a thread about Israel attacking targets inside Syria when so many other counties - including our own - are doing the same?

Because there's a current event news article pointing out very recent events that Israel has engaged in. It isn't singling out someone to point out current actions by someone.

Just because it is tiny (whatever that means) doesn't justify it. Israel is a tiny country. So it's not going to go after giant land areas, magnitudes bigger than itself.

Is that wrong, given the volatile situation in Syria? No.

Wrong, yes, it is wrong.

Is that different than what other countries, incl. US, are doing in Syria right now? No.

Wrong again. Let's suppose the U.S. is trying to expand its land empire into Syria. Then that would be another whatboutism by you. Let's suppose the U.S. is NOT trying to expand its land empire into Syria, then it is irrelevant to the point of what makes it wrong.

So why the one-sided condemnation of Israel?

It's like a broken record. When you have a current news story that X does Y, it's not one-sided to say that X did Y. They're called facts. Stop trying to make it into an insult.

Now Israel will expect a buffer zone for the buffer zone that is no longer a buffer zone because they have no intention of leaving it. I'm sure all it will take is some kid throwing a rock for pretext. Fucking Israel. Bibi. They're He’s just as bad as Russia Putin.
FIFY?
I don’t know how deep his support really is, but Bibi seems determined to keep his military busy inflaming the region and doesn’t appear too concerned about opposition. I am somewhat convinced that that is both his tactic and a large part of his survival strategy.

I love how the UN gets to hide behind the U.S's skirt and call for peace when they know damn well they'll do nothing about it. Their policy is the same as America's but they let us be the bad guy. To be fair, we're in on that cunty game too. All these nation's reps get together and decide on what to say and American reps agree to be the proxy asshole because who gives an actual shit. Europe doesn't want Islamic radicals either.

So Israel is going to take some territory to beef up its defense against what's going to be another Islamic fundamentalist nation whose stated goal will be to wipe Israel from the face of the earth?

Oh. What. A. Tragedy.

And that dreadful, tragic song keeps getting played over and over.

I do wish everyone would just mind their own business. It would be so much easier.

You may be premature in your opinion. For the thousands in that area who just want to get on with their lives, it is a real tragedy.

This is like saying it is not rape if the man doing it has a micro-penis.
The size of the offending dick matters not. I would rely on Article 120 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. To wit, penetration, however slight, with the intent to abuse, humiliate, harass, or degrade a neighboring country.

Derek raises a good point. Why single out Israel? Why does Turkey and America get a free pass here?

I'm inclined to be most concerned about Israel's bombing because of what I can make out from the news, it is Israel who is bombing within the populated areas (the western coast), who's presence in Syria is a new occurrence and this at a critical time in Syria's history.
Israel claims this is some precog invasion/bombing because they know what is to come from Syria, this new terrorist state. I call bullshit. We should being doing what we can to push Syria toward democracy at this time. Sending material aid they need to get things moving in the right direction. Why do you think they haven't officially told Russia to leave yet? It's plan B.

Not seeking territory? A lot of this is emerging stuff, so it is a bit difficult to see what Israel is doing. Netanyahu blew through quite a bit of international support, much like W in 2002/03. And it is hard to give him the benefit of the doubt. Certainly, Israel has some interest with the sudden fall of Syria.
