‘I love Hitler’: Leaked messages expose Young Republicans’ racist chat

NEW YORK — Leaders of Young Republican groups throughout the country worried what would happen if their Telegram chat ever got leaked, but they kept typing anyway.

They referred to Black people as monkeys and “the watermelon people” and mused about putting their political opponents in gas chambers. They talked about raping their enemies and driving them to suicide and lauded Republicans who they believed support slavery.

William Hendrix, the Kansas Young Republicans’ vice chair, used the words “n--ga” and “n--guh,” variations of a racial slur, more than a dozen times in the chat. Bobby Walker, the vice chair of the New York State Young Republicans at the time, referred to rape as “epic.” Peter Giunta, who at the time was chair of the same organization, wrote in a message sent in June that “everyone that votes no is going to the gas chamber.”

Giunta was referring to an upcoming vote on whether he should become chair of the Young Republican National Federation, the GOP’s 15,000-member political organization for Republicans between 18 and 40 years old.

“Im going to create some of the greatest physiological torture methods known to man. We only want true believers,” he continued.

Two members of the chat responded. (Go to the link to see the bigotry first hand.)

“I’m ready to watch people burn now,” Annie Kaykaty, New York’s national committee member, said.

The exchange is part of a trove of Telegram chats — obtained by POLITICO and spanning more than seven months of messages among Young Republican leaders in New York, Kansas, Arizona and Vermont. The chat offers an unfiltered look at how a new generation of GOP activists talk when they think no one is listening.

These are the up and comers of the Republican party. Makes me wonder what the ones already high in the party say in the darkness.

Why do certain people get so quiet when evil people say the silent parts out loud?
Because Stephan Miller would have been a Nazi in WWII era Germany and he is one of the closest people to Trump's ears. While what was stated is awful, it is a bunch of young self-entitled political dumbasses. I'm more worried about the JD Vances out there who are aiming to reestablish the late 19th century social order.

The problem is given the complete lack of quality control in the Republican party, and the fact that there is no low the Republican party won't stoop to, these young self-entitled political dumbasses will be able to gain power and influence in the (not so distant) future if they want to.

Back in my day, it was Joe McCarthy that Republicans were supporting - not all that different.
Yeah, more than 50 years ago. 80 years ago we were just finishing up WWII.

Unfortunately evil —and yes, this is evil—keeps resurrecting.
I don't think it died. It just passed on from parent to child. BUT, until recently it was something that people kept quiet about. Now they brag.

I have family members who were raised by moderate to liberal parents who are full on MAGA. My siblings and I were raised by very conservative parents who probably would be full on MAGA if they were still alive. We’re all fairly left leaning. And so are my kids.

So sure, there are exceptions but I don’t think k you can blame parents for their kids refusing to think.

Let's be clear: the JD Vances of the world are these people plus 30 years and money.

Less that 30 years. Money or no money. I’ve seen the ignorant, entitled crap from people with a lot, lot, lot less than little JD.

Of course there are exceptions. There always are. But most racist kids are racist due to growing up in a racist household and community.

These days, I actually blame the internet.

I know I know: overly broad and simplistic. But unfettered access to the internet without critical thinking skills and with social isolation creates a very good way to influence people for the worse.

Also for the better but it seems mostly to be the worse. This place excepted, of course.

Vermont state senator faces bipartisan calls for resignation over ‘hateful statements’ in GOP chat

Vermont’s political establishment is calling for the resignation of a Republican state senator over racist comments he allegedly made in a private chat group that exploded into scandal Tuesday.

Senator Samuel Douglass, who represents a rural county in the Northeast Kingdom, was implicated in a Politico report on leaked messages among young Republican leaders around the country. The chat group featured racist, sexist, and antisemitic language, including approving references to Adolf Hitler, slavery, and rape.

Douglass, who also chairs the Vermont Young Republicans, is quoted in the leaked chats discussing a woman whom a mutual friend had apparently dated. When one chat participant described her as a “very obese Indian woman” and another wrote that she “was not Indian,” Douglass replied, “She just didn’t bathe often.”

Someone made the mistake of opening the door on a Frat house farting contest.
I've seen literal pants-shitting competitions less disgusting than that chat.

For some reason a certain crowd is very silent about this, though...

Why do certain people get so quiet when evil people say the silent parts out loud?

There's obviously something rotten in the woodwork, there, and if people don't talk about it, nothing will end up getting done.

So let's have it, does the Hitler worship on display here finally settle it that MAGA ≈ Nazis?

It's literally the easiest thing in the world to say "yeah, looks like Republicans have a major Nazi problem!"

It's a little hard to follow that up with "well, how did they get there and what does that mean for the motivations behind their platform and policy goals," But we can address that later.
This is one of those times when the maxim "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time," applies.

These not very young Republicans are the cogs in the MAGA machine. MAGA needs men whose self perception is one of overwhelming weakness and desperately need the protection of the herd. This is a bitter irony for them, because the only reason we know about this is some herd member made their chat public.

The funniest part of this chat is the nasty crack about Indian women, because who do we know who has an Indian wife? He has to act as if this means nothing to him, in the same way Ted Cruz had to forget about Trump's remarks about his wife.

27 year old holding a political position in vt...state senator....

Where are all the grammar nazis about the word "boys?"

I don't think it's the internet per se so much as social media. It gives the manipulators far more access than they otherwise would have and they can resurrect in any number of guises so they don't have a reputation that follows them.

Yeah, I meant social media. You were much more clear.

The Republicans will just give this the good ol' "Fuck you!" treatment.

Prior to ~2015 this would've meant instant ejection from either party and the offending person would never be heard from again. Now they embrace it.

They are going further than that... Notice two pages of discussion over the course of days, and not a single response that, at least for me, would require the appearance of a "show blocked posts" widget.

Again, certain posters who are very loud about claiming conservatives are not Nazis are somehow completely silent on this.

@Jason Harvestdancer, @Emily Lake, @Derec, @Bomb#20

Do none of you have anything to say about what the Republican party actually is about?

There is no "both sides" here. There is no Democrat chat cheering on gas chambers as consequences of voting against gas chambers...

It’s a good thing that systemic racism has been solved in this country or those folks could do some serious damage.

Are the libtards up in arms about this? They're just jealous they don't know how to Make America Great Again!

Boys will be boys. If you can't crack jokes about the Holocaust, what has Free Speech in this country come to?

Contrast this playful locker-room talk with the left-wing extremist who wanted to let people of uncertain gender use the "family restroom" reserved for mothers with infant boys ineligible for either of the two other bathrooms. It's that sort of "liberal thinking" that has destroyed family values and doomed America. People who don't even know what gender they are should do their dirty business at home. [/s]
