Well... it's Trump... again. #47, here we go.

Who's done that?
Trump said Putin had agreed to release 300,000 tonnes of diesel immediately "to the American and global marketplace" followed by 500,000 tonnes in November and another million after that.

I am sure Russia will get paid for it and it is not a loving gift to Trump and 'Global marketplace'.

Trump is, as always, full of shit.

Putin doesn't have any diesel to spare. Russian farmers are unable to get what they need, and even the Russian army is struggling with obtaining enough.

Trump is trying to use his cachet as President to influence the US domestic diesel price in the short term, in the hope that a drop in price will improve GOP chances in the mid-terms.

It might even work. In the very short term.

But Russia won't be exporting refined diesel any time soon. And the US is a net exporter of refined diesel, so even if some Russian diesel did magically appear, it wouldn't go to the USA (though it might slightly depress prices globally, including in the US, if it were not entirely fictional).

None of that answers my question so I"ll ask again. Who has blamed India for prolonging the war?

Half the world including including Trump (and some of his NATO allies, knowing well that Russian oil is an absolute necessity for India. Trump has obtained the power to impose 100% tariff on some countries (including us). "India is also set to be hit with a 50% rate, effective from 27 August." - BBC 7 August
I do not know the exact situation now.

So no one then. Good to know.

How is that? Tariffs on India are 18% at the moment. Arbitrary tariffs are not the sign of friendship. Of course, India-US relations have cooled down during Trumps second presidency. But Modi is not one who can be dominated.

Would it? Aren't these *cough* volumes of diesel kind of small?

From what I've read the volume is very small and won't change the price of diesel. They are talking tons instead of barrels to trick people into thinking that it's actually significant.

So the cost of diesel won't be effected by this but Trump has managed to piss off Ukraine and Europe by completely ignoring their needs again, for what appears to only be about Trump trying to keep congress Repug so that he won't get investigated or impeached. It's once again all about him.

Sure, but the diesel isn't the issue. The diesel doesn't need to exist at all, in any quantity.

Market speculators, futures and commodities traders, respond to rumours, hints, and speculations, in the hope of making money by moving first.

The markets have a habit, honed over two centuries, and reinforced dramatically since the end of WWII, of taking particular note of anything said by the US President.

Of course, the current incumbent has taken this fact, and used it to enrich himself and his associates by talking the market up and down solely for his own benefit. It's a simple ploy, but one whose shelf-life is strictly limited - as the markets grow more cynical, his announcements have less weight. But then, they don't need much weight. As long as his claims can move the needle, he and his accomplices can make bank.

Chaos is an opportunity to make money on Wall Street. Chaos that you are, as President, able to steer - even to a tiny extent - is an opportunity to make vast sums. This kind of manipulation of the markets is generally highly illegal, precisely because it allows people to get rich by harming the real economy.

The current President has never hesitated to get rich by harming others, and is not about to start now. Indeed, he seems to be less and less concerned about the blatancy and obviousness of his crimes, the longer he is able to commit them with impunity.

Being President gives a person enormous power to manipulate the markets. Until recently, Presidents were generally careful to avoid abusing that power, knowing the harm it would do to the country if they did.

The diesel isn't the thing. The President saying that there will be diesel is the thing.

Certainly the quantity has to have some significance, if the Russian diesel wasn't in the general global production supply. A doubtful if.

Irregardless, if that is a word or not, the US produces over 700,000 tons (fucking "tons", really??) a day. So, Putin has 'promised' to send over 300,000 tons... which is less than one day's worth of what the US produces daily. Pissing in the ocean really. Of course, there is additional promise to send over 1,000,000 tons after the election. Oh goody... another day's worth of production.

And then there is the tiny issue of the US doesn't have a fucking diesel supply problem. The planet currently has an overdose of Trump problem which has cause oil to go up to $100 a barrel (and that is with a polite market that is willing to give Trump an inexcusable amount of leeway).

Then we get back to the issue of the global supply. Trump's plan is to rob Paul to pay Mary to solve the price of diesel problem.

I don't think you are catching what is actually happening here. There could be grift, but that isn't the goal. Trump and GOP are... desperate!

The internal polls are looking awful for the GOP... in fucking Kansas (where there is an incumbent running)! There are two senate races (Nebraska and Kansas with Louisiana possibly being another questionable target, as well as maybe even Montana) in the US that are not reasonably within reach for the Democrats because of two things, agricultural tariffs and THE PRICE OF DIESEL. Trump is desperate to make something happen. The GOP has spent nearly $1 billion in ads, tossing all that shit that worked 2 years ago... anti-trans/socialists. It isn't working, because farmers / loggers use diesel every day. They also can't run on prices being higher now.

This is just another along the lines of attempted tries at providing "leadership" (paying off voters, give aways to the retired, "cheaper" diesel).
