• Welcome to the Internet Infidels Discussion Board.

Well... it's Trump... again. #47, here we go.

Indian business heaved a sigh. Sensex went up 2%, oil eased.
Trump has affected IIDB seriously. It has become a political forum. ;)

And I highly doubt Trump would resign.
We can't let him resign. We let Nixon resign and it didn't heal us. Rump NEEDS to be punished as an example to MAGA.
MAGA doesn't understand how criminal Rump is. MAGA thinks it's just partisan politics. Rump NEEDS to serve jail time or else MAGA will elect some other dumbass (with a B).

If Rump leaves on his own terms, he would try to continue to lead MAGA and the Repugnant party.
The Repugnant party just got it's ass kicked. Now it needs to die out.

Vance will pardon him of all his criminal actions, including his part in the coup attempt and stealing classified documents.

If Trump resigned, Vance would probably pass. I can’t imagine he’d want the remainder of this term draped all over him.
I doubt that.

And I highly doubt Trump would resign.
I want to rescind my statement above.

I think some days before the end of Trump's term he will resign, making JDV the president. As soon as JDV is sworn in he will pardon Trump for any and all crimes. This will also make the question of whether a president can pardon himself moot.

Will his ego allow him to resign?

Resigning would require some contact with reality. Trump doesn't believe news reports unless they come from Fox, Newsmax, America One, etc., and even then he disbelieves the reports that cast him in a bad or weak position. He doesn't believe polls in general, and he clearly believes none of the current polling. (Remember that on 7/16/2018, he told the world that he believed Putin over his own intelligence briefings. Incredible...) He compares himself, according to WH staff, to Napoleon, Alexander the Great, and Julius Caesar (which makes you wonder if he could answer a few pointed questions, such as how did Caesar die? and how did Napoleon die?) If you consider that you rank with history's great conquerors, that you are the most powerful man on the planet, that you are a very stable genius, then your opponents need to resign, and failing that, they are horrible people who belong in prison, and you should get your DOJ to go after them.
No, we're stuck with an 80 year old lunatic until and unless he suffers a catastrophic health setback.

Trump is not going to leave office voluntarily, and the new Congress is not likely to be able to dislodge him. JD Vance was never onboard with the Iran war, and he has lately been blaming the war for the blue wave. The blue wave would have happened without the war, but that certainly made it much larger. Because Trump may need Vance to pardon him, he is not likely to get into a public spat with the man. So Vance has considerable leverage over Trump.

Hegseth should have resigned, and he may be forced out sooner than January by angry Republicans. The new Congress will almost certainly impeach him and try to remove him. Right now, Hegseth is being defiant, and Trump is apparently fine with that. It fits his "never admit weakness" strategy. Appointing Miller as Chief of Staff sends the message that he is going to pursue that path.

Republicans were urging Alito to retire so that they could install a Trump-friendly justice in the Court. Alito isn't giving up either. Both he and Thomas could leave the Court in the next 2 years, and both Roberts and Sotomayor are in their 80s. I don't see the new Congress as allowing Trump to make any more Supreme Court appointments.

I haven't seen any christian trolls around here for over a year.
Possibly because I've been paying more attention to the political threads.
And possibly because nowadays the trolls are more devotional towards Rump than g-zus.
I suppose that is progress. At least Rump is real.

The version of him they worship isn’t.

The version of him they worship isn’t.
What is reality, anyhow? Do they really worship, and if so, does that not confer reality upon the object of worship, even if it lacks physical existence? Does it not become endowed with agency, through the acts of its worshipers?

All I know is that Trump is no longer a shiny object in the American political gestalt. The shine is gone, but the object remains.
Trump will probably pull a Hitler end escape to a purpose built Argentine jungle fortress resort, but on the Black Sea, if depression doesn’t get him first.

I don’t think being against the Iran war is quite enough to disassociate Vance with Trump.
He has shown himself to be every bit as crude as Trump when he publicly humiliated Zelensky. He’s a poser and his public persona comes across as that of an asshole. I think the only people who like the guy are the ones in Silicon Valley who put him where he is today.

Trump orders the DoInJ to investigate democrats in congress who will doing their constitutional duty of oversight of this most corrupt administration.

President Donald Trump said he would have the Department of Justice look into threats of “Impeachment and many other forms of punishment” by Democrats against certain members of his administration, companies and donors to his ballroom project as he grapples with a new reality in Congress.

“The Democrats are going around threatening a lot of people, including the Attorney General of the United States, and others, with Impeachment and many other forms of punishment, even though they admit they have no reason to do so, and there have been no impeachable acts committed, or even thought of, by the victims of this illegal process,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Saturday, adding that it was “extortion at the highest level.”

“The imprisonment should be against these EXTORTIONISTS, and Republicans should get smart, fast! Threatening letters have been sent to many people, all innocent, from Democrat Political Leaders,” Trump continued. “By copy of this statement, I am ordering the Department of Justice to look into this criminal act, immediately!”

I can think of tons of impeachable offenses committed by several of his cabinet secretaries.
