This blows my mind - a full 59% of respondents say that the Mueller investigation has turned up no evidence of criminal activity.

Times Free Press:

Nearly half of the respondents to the Navigator Research poll — 49 percent — said they had "heard a lot," while 32 percent had "heard some." Another 15 percent had heard "a little," and 3 percent hadn't heard.
"To the best of your knowledge, has the investigation uncovered any crimes?"
Stunningly, 59 percent said "no."
What? No crimes?
How about 17 indictments and five guilty pleas? And that's just what we knew of when the poll went into the field in mid-May.

Cheato's droning repetitions are sufficient to convince a majority of Americans of a blatant, provable falsehood. We are a nation of lobotomized sheep.

A lot of people probably think the Meuller investigation is only about Trump, and see he's still president and there are no big talks of impeachment or putting him in jail, so figure there must be no evidence against him. That's my guess.

Well, a democracy gets the government it deserves. Congrats, Yanks. This is the best you deserve.

I think the linked article explains the dynamic:

article said:
Those 59 percent of Americans who don't know of the criminal evidence already uncovered in the Russia probe must be the same roughly 60 percent of Americans who watch Fox News.
Perhaps that's because whenever the Mueller probe is in the news for things like former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort's indictment on conspiracy, money laundering and bank fraud or former Trump National Security Adviser Micheal Flynn's guilty plea for lying or the indictments of 13 Russians involved in hacking and creating fake campaign news or the FBI raids on Trump attorney and fixer Michael Cohen's office, Fox is airing yet another story about sanctuary cities and immigration.

60% watch Faux Nooz? I hope that includes me: I tune in there every time another big scandal breaks, just so I can watch cheerleader contests and stuff like that.

The graphic doesn't show the orbitoclast, but I'm sure it's there somewhere...

Don't expect very busy, underpaid hard-working people to be informed by our mainstream media. It is wrong to call them idiots. Ignorant yes, but not idiots. We have a propaganda controlled press that serves only the interests of its owners and those who hire it to serve them. It's always the same crowd at Fox and CNN and NBC etc. It is just money talking...money from Boeing, money from Exxon, money from entities that are concerned about controlling our knowledge. This is a real issue. The poll just showed that.

We live in a post-fact society. I wouldn't be surprised if most Republican voters believe that computers are powered by witchcraft and that their table sugar is secretly sending messages to the lizard people who control our government.

I used to believe that. Unfortunately, I've turned cynical. I think the situation is a bit more complex than that, but honestly, a sort of willful stupidity most certainly does factor in if you ask me. Some are kind of as you suggest. People that don't know that things could be any other way, with a certain hopelessness. They see no reason to pay attention to politics because even if they did vote and even if they voted in their best interest, they won't see much difference in their lives.

Identity politics is certainly part of it. There's been a lot of talk about identity politics on the left, but the right has had that concept locked up for a long time now. This is especially true in the south and rural areas. Being a Republican entails some very specific ideas...and nothing else. It's advanced to a point now where it's ALL about identity. Conservatives have no policy ideas, just zombie economics, and outdated social norms. Present GOP policy is who can successfully insult or "trigger" liberals. That's it.

Finally, I think a large part of the problem is nuance. It's the nature of the message the two sides are trying to sell. It reminds me very much of a public evolution vs. creationism debate. Creationism is easy to understand. It has pithy one-liners you can toss on a bumper sticker. It evokes natural emotions in people like pride and prejudice. Understanding evolution required work, research, nuance and while it is the correct position, it's not easy to understand for a lot of people. It's the same with Conservative arguments vs Progressive ones.

Finally, there are the nutters. Sorry, but they're mostly on the right. The right circulates more fake news, and the right is home to more conspiracy theorists. The right has the religious nuts as well, and they are more gullible.

The Democrats really fucked up when they gave up on vast swaths of country while they had the White House. The only way Dems can win is if they get power for long enough, and then make highly visible, concrete differences in people's lives for the better that are undeniable.

I wanted to add one more thing. I think another reason people have no idea about what has turned up in the Mueller investigation is a lack of civic knowledge. They don't pay close attention, and they naively think that if the investigation had turned up anything then those in office would face punishment and removal from office. I think many people have no idea to what extent the Republicans have abandoned any pretext to any kind of commitment to justice. The GOP has blatantly not just failed to do their oversight duty, but actually obstructed justice to assist in their own corruption.

If there is no "blue wave" coming next election, they will be so emboldened it may well be the end of our democratic experiment. Just look at what the GOP is doing in North Carolina.

Many on the right have denied objective evidence for decades (e.g. evolution, climate change). They seem to have trained themselves to stick to their party line (or religious doctrine) regardless of the evidence against it.

the problem there is that the only way to actually accomplish that within the US is to first flat-out deny the people who's lives you're trying to improve from being allowed access to the process of deciding whether or not their lives get improved.
the lives of lower conservative voters will never improve until their representative voice is also removed, because it is their representative voice that is keeping them suppressed in the first place.

social safety nets, livable wages, UHC, public infrastructure, reasonable taxes and those revenues being spent on programs for the people, income equality, social equality, fairness under the law... these are all exclusively the providence of democrats because the republicans go out of their way to actively destroy any semblance of these things at every opportunity.
(note: i'm not saying that all democrats support these ideals or that the democratic party is successful at implementing these ideals, however they are indeed the only party who even marginally represent the notion that these ideals should be implemented in the first place)
