It's because the right believe that Australia is a brutal totalitarian state because of covid policies.

Back in the 1980s, I used to see occasional 'weird news' columns in the English press, which talked of bizarre happenings - urban legends - as real things. These were almost always things that happened in Australia or New Zealand.

When I got to Australia, I discovered that Australian newspapers ran similar stories, but that these stories always took place in the UK or Ireland.

The editors had column inches to fill, so they put in harmless but entertaining fiction set far enough away as to make checking the purported facts impractical for their readers.

The only differences today are that the fiction is no longer as harmless; And that the rise of the Internet has proven that it was never so much that it was difficult that prevented people from fact checking, rather it is that people don't want to check. The typical approach to truth is to decide whether you want to believe or disbelieve a claim, and then declare it true (or false) without further investigation.

That's likely always been the case. The internet just makes it more blatant.

Africans (Kenyans, at least) are known for running fast. They're running across the ocean.

(And, yes, go fast enough and you can run across water. For something human sized in Earth's gravity that's far above maximum running speed, though.)

Who, or what company, did?

I'm not a bonafide liberal, and I've no interest in their products. I never considered calling them until this post.

Maybe I should, just to see who they think is responsible for the advertising. But I hate to clog up their phone lines if this really is a bunch of internet crap.
