I'm hesitant to buy the story if it is in a book. Could be true, or could be hearsay used to sell books.

Didn't he suggest to a police organization that they might rough up people they arrest? Something about not protecting their head when they put them in the squad car...

There were also reports at the time that Trump offered to pardon McAleenan for breaking laws to close the border, which lines up with the NYT reporting.

It has got to be illegal for a boss to essentially encourage a subordinate to break the law. Even if he is president and can pardon. It's exactly the same as if trump broke the law himself.

The man is lawless.
