A man like Putin

I'm getting around to it. NPR has the story behind the song. It wasn't Putin's idea, but he gave his blessing. It quickly hit #1 on the charts in 2003? I'll dig up the links.

Sorry for the interment posting..I've been on the phone. Anyhow, this is some impressive propaganda, but it's over 10 years ago. Anyone know how things are now? What do I mean by "things", I guess his popularity with the target demographic of that video.

How are things now? That depends on your definition of "good", "great", and "horrible."

Putin has stolen and killed himself into the same corner at which every despotic dictator eventually arrives. He has an immense fortune which can only be defended by the greatest political power in the country. If he ever steps down, the next person in control can take everything back and throw him in prison. He is in a real Sword of Damocles situation. To keep his power, he must continually expand his power and there is a practical limit. The more he has, the more profit there is in taking him down and the more desperate measures he will take to stay.

The old Soviet Regime fell because the power was distributed between many people and none of them were willing to commit to the violence needed to keep the Soviet State intact. Strangely enough, Putin finds a lot of support and admiration among US neocons. They like anything that causes trouble for Barrack Obama, even mass murderers like Vladimir Putin.

I believe topic of this thread is popular music in Russia. I am not big fan of it, it's pretty horrible. And I blame Putin for that, this particular incident is proof of his guilt. TV is horrible too. It looks like they have given up on anybody below age of 60 except sport fans.

So you're saying it's really timely then. ;)

The topic should have been: Propaganda, Putin Style.

That's not really representative of propaganda in Russia. But it is representative of what kind of shit western propaganda use to represent propaganda in Russia. I mean that's very typical of western media.

Reminds me of the Obama Girl stuff when Obama was running in 2008.

Putin is just a standard issue Russian politician, really not much different from the standard issue American or English or French politician. Whenever people get together with genuine mutual concerns, people do pretty good. But...whenever standard issue politicians get together you have a game that strangely resembles the WWF...these videos have the very smell of politics period. It is funny how people just fall in line behind their cheerleaders. Putin is completely understandable...much the same as our leaders.:humph:

meh. French and English politicians are generally different to this. I'm not saying they're better, just that people in those countries simply aren't inclined to take this kind of thing seriously.

I don't know. I never heard of it, until now. And it was #1 on the charts in Russia.
