After 2018 election: who impressed you the most who may win the Democratic Primary in 2020?

It'll need to be a white man. Because that seems to be the only thing Republicans care about. So if it's a white man again they'll get a lot of votes back they lost because of racism and misogynism.

Sadly, that's nothing less than true.

I knew that racism on many levels still existed, but I thought it was largely a dying thing--part of the past that one could see steadily fading. God, how ignorant I was.

So yes, to ensure Trump's defeat, to take more seats in the House, and win back the Senate, it's gonna have to be a white guy. And ideally, he would win two terms, which means the next non-white and/or female POTUS wouldn't be able to take office until 2030. That's tragic because it represents a step back, a win for the mouth breathing assholes who support Trump and the GOP. But maybe by then, many of the old racists who take Viagra for Trump will be dead, the youth will turnout, and those who are now 18-24 will have remained largely progressive.

Maybe then, the best candidate can be chosen regardless of ethnicity or gender. But it's still fucking sad.

I'm not an American, but I'd like to see Maxine Waters take down Trump; barring that, the woman who won the Arizona Senate seat.
I think, however, barring a noticeable economic downturn noticeable in the Fall of 2020, that Trump will eke out another win, because that's what incumbents do in American Presidential elections, and Trump will be getting more "help" in a concentrated form, from various sources, than did the mid-term Repubs.

Not likely IMO. The shitgibbon is damaged goods, except for the 30-something percent of mouth-breathing dullards who will support him to his (their) death.
Uncle Vlad will try to support him of course, but he will need to be much more careful about it than in 2016. White suburban voters have already abandoned FFvC. An economic downturn is all but certain between now and the 2020 elections - we may be seeing it already. Unless Cheato can turn that around 180 degrees (which is a really really remote possibility, esp given the limited ability of a president to effect the economy) and produce a big boom, he is toast. If he doesn't win in 2020 and has not staged a successful coup by then, he's going to prison. I don't think he's going to pin his hopes on a 2020 electoral victory, as the cost of losing will be too high.
Watch for more wars, martial law and all that follows from it... that's Cheato's most likely winning ticket to his own freedom.*

* Unless Dems find another Hillary to nominate. But even a win in 2020 only keeps Cheato out of prison until 2024. What would YOU do?

The Dems need to head for the high ground with no nonsense candidates with integrity and an ability to argue on the issues dispassionately. I'm most impressed with the likes of Patty Murray, Sheldon Whitehouse, Adam Schiff, Sherrod Brown, Richard Blumenthal, Chris Coons, Angus King, and Chris Murphy. These are the ones who are able to cut through the BS and not succumb to taunts from Trump and his acolytes. None of them are too old (like Biden) but not all of them can inspire the electorate. And part of that means bringing along those 18 - 24's who tend to be more progressive. Bernie was good for the cause but he's just too old and inflexible. I saw Chris Murphy on TV addressing the bill to limit US support for Saudi Arabia in Yemen and he was very intelligent and direct on the various issues involved. Plus he leans heavily towards Sanders' agenda. I know he's got ambitions to make a run for POTUS someday. If he were in the House I'd want him to run for speaker. We need new blood and I think he's one of the best.

Chris Murphy would be my pick, but I suspect that Angus King would be a better bet to bring the indies out to vote Dem. He'd probably have to join the Party to get a full-on down-ballot effect.

A Murphy-O'Rourke ticket might sound too Irish for some people :D

Yeah, I think Beto is currently the strongest potential candidate. Don't really know much about his political views, but unless he has some really out-there views, his pledge not to take PAC money is good enough for me to forgive most things.

Beto O'Roark comes to politics by his own omission from a PUNK ROCK BAND. He was a TPP supporter and is part of the Democratic Party corporate centrist wing who foisted Obama Care on a public that wanted government health insurance. While there are good things to say about Beto (I voted for him against Ted Cruz here in Texas), I do not think he is the best choice for a presidential candidate. Maybe if he were to get behind the progressives and support someone like Bernie Sanders, he could redeem himself with the party and make a good VP candidate. He has served in congress, and has some of the Pelosi baggage which he really should shed.

A democrat with charisma and vision will be scary to the republicans! Anyway, as a Texan, please thank Beto for me. I personally know people who have benefited from Obama care. Specifically, the requirement to treat mental health issues as medical issues has helped many people.

Agreed! Removing pre-existing conditions and making insurance available and affordable to all has been a tremendous boon to people I know, including at least two offspring who could find better, cheaper insurance on the govt. marketplace than what was offered by their employers.

Also I would like to point out that Sanders is not a Democrat. Supporting Sanders is hardly likely to garner Democratic support, although it would help with Bernie supporters.

My biggest problems with Sanders are his age: he's too old by at least 10 years and I'm no spring chicken myself! And the fact that as an independent, he would have a difficult time getting anything done. The republicans would fight against him every step of the way and so would some democrats.
