"After repeatedly mocking President Trump for suggesting on March 19 that hydroxychloroquine could be an effective treatment for coronavirus, media organizations have begun acknowledging that the drug -- now approved for emergency use to treat coronavirus by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) -- may be useful after all."

Man, the media just automatically hates whatever Trump suggests. This is getting sick.

Politics over people.

But Trump did not offer a mefical opinion. In fact, he argued with the expert who was on stage with him, suggesting caution.

Trump's promotion killed some people trying yo self-administer the stuff, and caused hoarding of a drug with actual, tested applications for people with Lupus. So now THEY can't get the drugs THE Y need because Bonespurs needs to be the hero, even if it requires talking oit his uninformed ass.

Do not try to present this as The Shitgibbon being validated.

Accordingbto The Lancet, 3 days ago:
The US Food and Drug Administration has designated hydroxychloroquine for off-label, compassionate use for treating COVID-19, and WHO added the drug to its large global SOLIDARITY trial to test a variety of potential treatments. But virologists and infectious disease experts caution that the excitement is premature.
“Whether hydroxychloroquine works in vivo is not proven for any virus, and in fact in randomised controlled trials against a number of viruses, including influenza, it doesn't work at all,” says Douglas Richman, a virologist and infectious disease physician at the University of California, San Diego. “It's my personal prejudice that this is also going to be the case with coronavirus.”

So, hold the applause.

Way to rewrite history. Journalists were never skeptical about hydroxychloroquine. They were hugely skeptical about Trump's claim when the people doing the research said it was way to early to determine one way or the other. And guess what? Trump is still talking out of his arse:

Coronavirus: Dr. Anthony Fauci warns Americans shouldn’t assume hydroxychloroquine is a ‘knockout drug’

Americans shouldn’t assume hydroxychloroquine is a “knockout drug” in preventing or treating COVID-19, White House health advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci warned Friday.

“We still need to do the definitive studies to determine whether any intervention, not just this one, is truly safe and effective,” Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said on Fox News. “But when you don’t have that information, it’s understandable why people might want to take something anyway even with the slightest hint of being effective.”

When I need advice about the decking in my backyard, I call a carpenter. If my toilet is broken, I call a plumber. In the event of a pandemic, I am more inclined to listen to a world respected immunologist instead of a dumb as shit insecure tangerine narcissist.

And if you want to talk about which media outlet has spread the most misinformation about this pandemic, well just take a fucking guess.

But Trump did not offer a mefical opinion. In fact, he argued with the expert who was on stage with him, suggesting caution.

Caution is of course appropriate. But some here have argued that hydroxychloroquine is no better than "eye of newt" just because Trump mentioned it.

Trump's promotion killed some people trying yo self-administer the stuff,
Him mentioning a treatment option is not responsible for some dumdums taking aquarium cleaner.

and caused hoarding of a drug with actual, tested applications for people with Lupus.

Neither has he told people to hoard it.

Hydroxychloroquine is the miracle cure of this pandemic.

Every pandemic (real or fictional) has one; It's distinguishing features are that it's cheap, readily available, widely promoted (often by celebrities and/or politicians), and completely ineffective.

You might as well try eye of newt. (And that's true regardless of who is promoting it).

So where is the quote that the "media" should be embarrassed about? Really, Half-Life, where is the gotcha?

All the quotes in the article you linked are saying that the drug doesn't have enough evidence and it is reckless to promote unproven solutions. All of that criticism is still valid. And when I say "still valid," I mean that it is STILL correct that there isn't enough evidence to start promoting Hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for Covid-19. The "small study" that says the drug may be helpful is not a clinical trial. Those have only just begun. It's usefulness at this point is still anecdotal. Which makes Trump promoting it, weeks ago through to today, still reckless.

The absence of critical thinking skills in the typical consumer of fox news is just SO depressing.

Sure he is. While people may be considered competent to make decisions regarding daily life, they are not necessarily considered competent to make their own medical decisions. Encouragement in time of great anxiety from who some consider to be ( I struggle to write) a source of sound advice does draw a level of responsibility.

Yup. Despite all reason and logic, there remain millions of people for whom a recommendation means far more when it comes from the President of the United States.

Actually iirc the woman whose husband died and she barely survived said they did it because daddy don recommended it.

But ingesting aquarium cleaner instead of an actual drug from a pharmacy is on them, not SCROTUS, who I hold responsible for damn near everything.

Who put the thought to do so into their heads?

And i never even mentioned the aquaruim lickers. He is harming people who have a real reason to take the real drugs as prescribed by real doctors for auto-immune deficiencies, and suddenly their pharmacies xannot find the drug for the same reason people cannot find toilet paper. It's all being grabbed up by hoarders, and desperate idiots.

Ah, so you guys missed this article that was linked in the article I linked:

"Woman who said she drank fish-tank cleaner because of president's advice is not a Trump supporter"

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/arizona-woman-fish-tank-cleaner-trump-democrat

"Speaking to the Free Beacon, Wanda acknowledged she was a Democrat and put less emphasis on Trump's guidance: "We weren't big supporters of [Trump], but we did see that they were using it in China and stuff," Wanda said."

"We didn't think it would kill us," she added. "We thought if anything it would help us, 'cus that's what we've been hearing on the news."

Turns out it's not "MAGA country" that is taking this stuff. It's people with severe TDS.

so, YOU missed the part where _I_ said i wasn't talking about THAT couple, when i said Trump's irresponsible blathering has hurt people.

It was only in the post you quoted.

Learn to read, Halfie.

What a shock that you'd leave out this quote:

"We saw Trump on TV—every channel—and all of his buddies and that this was safe [sic]. ... Trump kept saying it was basically pretty much a cure."

It is entirely irrelevant what her political stance may or may not be, but thanks for affirming that Trump's an incompetent shithead that should never be trusted to provide necessary information.

But still, Trump is not responsible for what people do. There's always unhinged lunatics around.

He mentioned a possible cure that was being worked on by the doctors. If people go out and misinterpret his words and do no research, then it amounts to nothing more than a fat person suing McDonald's for "making them fat" when nobody forced them to go to McDonald's in the first place.

Him mentioning a possible cure that is being worked on is better than him saying, "We got zippo at this point. We don't know what we're gonna do, folks. Be scared and start screaming."

Man, you really are desperate in portraying Trump as the real victim here, aren't you?
