Age bias in Silicon Valley

What was your response in the belief that racial discrimination doesn't happen in the work force?

This is a different case--there is a value. The younger workers are more willing to spend extra hours in the office. (This is a mistaken belief, though--in IT spending a lot of extra hours gains very little additional productivity.)

If only I could convince my boss that extra hours does not always equal productivity.

Kind of a corollary to the mistaken belief that white skin or Asian ancestry, along with a penis = more productivity.

Huh.

Yeah, it's just one company but the lack of a ton of bricks landing on them shows that the problem must be much more widespread.

There are laws in Europe against age bias. The UK has abolished mandatory retirement. There is no evidence that older people are less innovative or production then new people. A good mix will be people of all ages.

For countries like the Philippines most ads specify an age between 21 and 28.

Now over 50, the problem is rampant but I have been lucky with employers taking me on each year on one year contracts. I work longer hours than the younger ones. I often work over my obligated hours and am not a clock watcher. Some younger and older people do the same and some don't.

Originality, innovation productivity and quality of work are related to skills, individual work ethics and dedication which is nothing to do with age

They sometimes spend extra hours in the office. An experienced person like myself can solve problems in minutes not hours or days.

Yup. It looks like a better deal.

But where is your argument Loren that a company will lose market share if they don't hire the most productive people?

And the difference between blacks and this group is that you are or will be a member of the group that is discriminated against so it's wrong in this particular case to you.
