Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Slams Fox News For Laughing At Her DC Rent Problem | HuffPost:
The representative-elect criticized Fox panelists for mocking working-class people ― and for mispronouncing her name.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who this week became the youngest woman ever elected to Congress, called out Fox News for belittling her struggle to afford an apartment in Washington, D.C., during a Friday panel discussion on “America’s Newsroom.”

The Fox panelists snickered all the way through their chat on the topic, described in a chyron as: “Self-proclaimed socialist says she can’t afford DC rent.”

Contributor Judy Miller actually laughed after host Bill Hemmer recalled that Ocasio-Cortez ― whose name no one pronounced correctly on the show ― was working in the service industry before she launched into her campaign to represent New York’s 14th District.
The Right likes to laugh at limousine liberals, but here they are, laughing at what a peasant she seems to be.

She tweeted from her account, Ocasio2018,
1. @FoxNews, why can’t any of your anchors say my name correctly? It’s been 5 months.

2. It is bizarre to see 1%-salaried anchors laugh at the US housing crisis.

3. Never purchased pricey clothes + always told my story. But repeating lies until they are believed is your thing.

-

There is no reason to be ashamed or embarrassed.

Mocking lower incomes is exactly how those who benefit from + promote wealth inequality the most keep everyday people silent about 1 of the worst threats to American society: that the rich are getting richer and the poor, poorer.

-

40% of ALL Americans currently struggle to pay for one basic need like food or rent.

As much as @FoxNews likes to mock the working-class, the real scandal is that at the wealthiest point in our history, we are at one of our most unequal.

Most Americans are barely scraping by.

-

There are many little ways in which our electoral system isn’t even designed (nor prepared) for working-class people to lead.

This is one of them (don’t worry btw - we’re working it out!)
Those expensive clothes were given to her to be photographed in for an Interview magazine photo shoot. She will earn $174,000/year when she starts her term in Congress, but it won't start for three months.

She really needs a Go Fund Me page. I am sure she could quickly have a decent apartment and other necessities her job would require.

Can’t she just have some billionaire lobbyist buy an apartment for her in exchange for supporting legislation which would give him a bunch of tax cuts?

I grew up in a super conservative family. One of the things I heard consistently growing up is that if you work hard enough, you can be anything you want. You can be poor and become somebody, etc. Nevermind that reality showed me the hollow truth of those sentiments. The point is that they believed it.

Now we have conservatives masturbating over Trump, who came from Everything, and failed upwards in spectacular fashion to become POTUS. Yet, when it comes to a progressive woman with Latin heritage coming from nothing, they hold her in complete contempt. But what's really going on is that she terrifies them on a deep level. Racism, classism, sexism; you name it, she's the non-white Hillary hiding under the bed.

She, like Kamala Harris, is being set up to be the new face of leftist villainy.

On a more anecdotal level, conservative white women are super intimidated by pretty Latina women... bah. My anecdotes are just personal stories about dating some Latina women in a very white area of SoCal back in my 20s. But I think I'm right.

Actually, a lot of Congress people rent rooms. Washington DC is an expensive town, especially in a good neighborhood near senate and congressional offices. Think about it: senators and Congress people must maintain a residence in the district they represent—and must have living quarters in DC. It’s much harder if they have families to maintain as well.

If I got pay like that of a Representative, I easily could afford two living locations. Her only problem is that the pay hasn't started coming in yet because she didn't actually plan on what to do if she won.

She'll fit right in.

I think that may just be a dynamic particular to SoCal.

... she didn't actually plan on what to do if she won..

So whenever you can't afford something, like say a yacht, for example, it's because you didn't plan for it properly.

Welcome to ConservoLibertoStupia, everyone...the land where it's your fault you're not rich yet because you didn't use your brain good.

But they get a housing allowance apart from their salary. I have often suggested that they build a compound like a military base and our congress critters, when in D.C., could live in barracks like our military personnel. It would save tax payers a lot of money.

To fix your broken false analogy ... if you actually make deliberate plans to buy a yacht, do the comparison shopping, fill out the paperwork, put down a deposit, and then discover you can't afford the rest of the purchase, then yes that is stupid. Just like your use of fascist dog whistles.

Since she has two months to shop around and solve her temporary problem, your analogy is a fail. Your post is petty just because you don't like a socialist. Now that you know everyone reading your posts knows they are petty, please just stop.

Yes, I don't like left-socialists, and I don't like right socialists. That is a natural reaction for a normal human being. Taking an occasion to laugh at one of them for doing something stupid is a bit like shooting fish in a barrel. The question is, since you used a fascist dog whistle, why you defend a left-socialist?

That's crap. Put them in cages. It's good enough for kids.

The government considers it good enough for our military personnel. Aren't congress critters supposed to be servants of the people like our military?

Yes, why didn't she scuttle such fanciful notions of representing the people.

I'm thinking she'll sleep in her office and shower at the gym for as long as necessary. Not unheard of.
