Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Takes Down Mike Huckabee: Leave Lying to Your Daughter, 'She’s Much Better at It'
Former Arkansas Governor Huckabee on Sunday mocked New York Representative Ocasio-Cortez for a speech in which she compared her victory and that of other progressives mid-term to landmark moments in U.S. history, including the moon landing and the civil rights movement.
Mike Huckabee:
Ocasio-Cortez compares her election to moon landing. Huh? Big difference. Moon landing was LUNAR, not LOONEY; Moon landing done by ppl who knew what they were doing...those who elected someone who thought there were 3 branches of Congress did NOT. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...victory-moon-landing-U-S-electrification.html
AOC:
A Green New Deal will take a level of ambition + innovation on the scale of the moon landing. We’ve been done it before, and can do it again.

Leave the false statements to Sarah Huckabee. She’s much better at it.

Also, you haven’t been a Governor of any state for 10+ years now.

What MH referred to: Ocasio-Cortez compares her election victory to moon landing and U.S. electrification | Daily Mail Online
Democratic socialist wunderkind Ocasio-Cortez compares her election to landing on the moon and wiring America for electricity saying 'we've done what we thought was impossible'
  • Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, 29, spoke at an environmentalist event Friday with other liberal freshman lawmakers
  • She compared her surprising congressional victory, making her America's youngest-even congresswoman, to major watershed events in American history
  • 'We went to the moon. We electrified the nation. We established civil rights. We enfranchised the country,' the Democratic socialist said
  • Then she likened those turning points to what happened November 6 'when so many of us won an election this year'
  • Ocasio-Cortez polled 15,897 votes in the primary election that made her November victory a foregone conclusion in a heavily anti-Trump district
  • There are 214,750 active registered Democrats in the district; fewer than 28,000 cast ballots in the primary
Her victory in the main election was no surprise, but her victory in the primary was, with her unseating Joseph Crowley, a Representative from that part of New York City for 20 years.

The election of people is meaningless.

What has meaning is what those people elected do.

He's got a point.

He does?

If we could almost completely get off fossil fuels and convert to green energy (whatever forms that may take) it would be a far bigger accomplishment than the moon landing.

It baffles me that people like Mike Huckabee will say that America is the greatest nation ever, but then quickly turn around and say "We aren't capable of doing that" when it comes to things like green energy and health care.

We had an opportunity to get off the teat of ME petroleum after 9/11. I thought of it more as a Manhattan Project type of undertaking we could've engaged in rather than a New Deal thing, but the result would've been the same. The U.S. could have emerged from 9/11 with a massive government program to develop new energy and underused types of energy, which would've resulted in innovation, jobs, and a much clearer planet. Instead, we did the Republican thing and invaded Iraq. Seventeen years later and we're still Saudi Arabia's bitch. And Huckabee seems fine with that.

She got elected. She didn't almost completely get off fossil fuels and convert to green energy.

She did exaggerate. Mike Huckabee was an asshole. Isn't he supposed to be all Christiany and stuff? Wouldn't mean not trying to belittle people publicly, calling her "looney"?

A little bit more context. She was not talking about just her election, it seems she was referring to the election of many progressives, which even the Democratic leadership didn't seem to think would happen. The idea being when a lot of people work together they can accomplish something that was thought impossible.

'We've done what we thought was impossible,' she told a small crowd who braved 40-degree weather.
'We went to the moon. We electrified the nation. We established civil rights. We enfranchised the country. We dig deep, and we did it. We did it when no one else thought that we could. That's what we did when so many of us won an election this year.'

The idea being when a lot of people work together they can accomplish something that was thought impossible.

When they accomplish something she can crow.

But that was the point of the speech. It is hard to accomplish something when people are ambivalent or disinterested in it. When people think there is a good chance of reaching an 'impossible' goal, then it is easier to get them to work for it, to actually accomplish it.

She should wait until she accomplishes something before she talks about what is necessary to accomplish something.

Until then just do it.

She has my support already.

What she needs to do is expand her support.

Her sentiment was right, but she made a George W Bush level error is saying "mission accomplished" instead of "yes we can". She should have said the exact same thing but make it future rather than past tense. Huckabee is still an add though.

I wish these Republican assholes would leave the woman alone. She isn't experienced, but I think she means well. She needs to learn her way around before she touts her success, but these old white Republicans are really making fool of themselves by attacking a young, inexperienced Congress woman. Don't these assholes have more better things to do? I guess not. They remind me of children picking on the new kid in the room.

Actually, it's very much in their best interests to be attacking her this way. They realize quite well, just as the Dems do, that this woman is one of the Dems' rising stars with a bright future ahead of her in politics. They need to damage her right now and begin the narrative of destroying her character, so that they'll be far more able to give her the Hillary treatment when she rises to true prominence.

They're threatened by her. She reminds me a lot of FDR, she's quick on her feet and fearless.

I should add that the republican mindset needs enemies. It's just part of their identity. Without enemies they don't know whether to shit or wind a watch.

Unter: I would leave the politics to the politicians if I were you. You are particularly ill-suited. Hopefully, you won't take offense to that. Many would consider it a compliment.

Heh, no. On more right leaning sites I'd say there is a genuine and sincere belief she's a naive idiot. Which she continually bolsters by saying naive idiotic things.

I think it just makes her more credible by standing up to the bullies and not taking shit. It's refreshing.

You have her confused with Palin.

I should rent out a billboard with:

"I am a Republican. I hope that people will have fear. And I fear that people will have hope."

I think it may have escaped you there could be more than one idiot.

Here's a typical sort of article one can find on a conservative site. I think they are genuinely delighted to have this woman talking as much as possible.

https://freebeacon.com/blog/five-idiotic-moments-recent-alexandria-ocasio-cortez-interview/

I can never thank enough the Democratic voters of New York's 14th congressional district for giving us Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the young Latina who stunned politicos by beating powerful Democrat Joe Crowley in the primary. Ocasio-Cortez's win was greeted with enthusiasm by the Bernie Sanders wing of the Democratic Party, who hailed her as a rising star and a champion for democratic socialism.

But since then Ocasio-Cortez has been a gaffe-generating gift to her opponents. First she completely whiffed on a question about Israel in an interview with PBS, even straight up admitting "I am not the expert on geopolitics on this issue." She earned a "Pants on Fire" rating from Politifact for the same interview, when she claimed that unemployment was down because people were working multiple jobs. In her next interview she completely flip-flopped on her response on the Israel question to please the left. She responded to the critics of the first interview by accusing them of being members of the alt-right (they weren't) and angrily accused her former primary opponent Crowley of secretly trying to mount a third-party run (he wasn't).

This was in a span of three days.

This is not "fear", it's "delight".
