Apparently they mean Asian babies...

Bush said that he used the term “anchor babies” specifically to refer to fraud in a “specific targeted kind of case” involving mothers who travel to the United States only to win citizenship for their unborn children.

“Frankly it’s more Asian people,” he added.

I guess they've destroyed their Latino base and are moving on to another group.

BEIJING — Business is booming here for companies that coach pregnant women on how to deceive U.S. immigration authorities so they can enter the United States for the sole purpose of giving birth to American citizens.

At least 500 companies offered "birth tourism" services in China last year, the Shanghai newspaper National Business Daily reported. While there are no official statistics, the number of Chinese citizens heading to the USA to give birth likely is in the tens of thousands each year. The cost of a trip, including medical expenses, runs from $20,000 to $80,000.

The business is legal in China, but the tactics for entering the USA are not. The women are coached to lie about the purpose of their visit by listing "tourism," which makes it easier to get a visa. They also are told to hide their pregnancies when going through U.S. immigration and avoid declarations that they're traveling for medical treatment.

The main attraction: When children born in the United States turn 21, they can sponsor their parents to become legal U.S. residents so the family can emigrate to America.

How do you figure 20 relatives? The child can only sponsor his immediate family, i.e. his spouse, parents, and in some cases, his siblings (based on their age). Also, the child must grow to the age of 21 to begin the sponsorship process, which itself can take years (for parents or a spouse), or decades (for a sibling who is under the age of 18 or 21).

Jindal would be a strong case to argue against liberalizing immigration policies.

How do you figure 20 relatives? The child can only sponsor his immediate family, i.e. his spouse, parents, and in some cases, his siblings (based on their age). Also, the child must grow to the age of 21 to begin the sponsorship process, which itself can take years (for parents or a spouse), or decades (for a sibling who is under the age of 18 or 21).

A citizen can sponsor siblings of any age. Age only matters for how long the wait is.

There's no waiting period on sponsoring a spouse, just the incredible slowness with which they "work". (Although actually I expect the slowness is more due to underfunding.)

People keep talking about this issue as though family sponsorship were a law of physics. It's not as though we couldn't pass a regular law saying people who came to the U.S. to have babies are ineligible to immigrate so we need to change the constitution and take out our frustration on the baby.
