Really? Are they penis operated?
et tu Bilby? I thought you where better than that?
Yes, there must obviously be some penis involved in this, why would women have to be depicted as sexually attractive?
I haven't got a dog in this fight; I am not a gamer, and I am a feminist, but perhaps only in the old-fashioned sense of the word - I don't think of myself as a "potential rapist" for moral reasons, despite owning the appropriate physical equipment.
Both sides of this "debate" - which is not sufficiently dignified to deserve the name - seem to be being bloody stupid.
Women need to be depicted as sexually attractive for two main reasons:
1) Women
are sexually attractive (at least to heterosexual men and homosexual women); and
2) Sex sells.
Gaming is not different from any other marketed product. Unrealistic portrayals of women are unrealistic; And they are ubiquitous.
Personally, if I want to see women as objects, I avail myself of the unfathomable quagmire that is Internet pornography; But if others are embarrassed to do so, and like to pretend that they are not being titillated, but are only playing a game, then that's OK.
Fantasy is fantasy. Marketing uses sexual fantasy to sell stuff. It's crazy to get hung up about it.
'Pornography' isn't a problem; so pseudo-porn in video games is even less of a problem.
Meh. I wouldn't even bother to post here if I wasn't slightly drunk. The whole "debate" is stupidity upon stupidity, from both sides; As ideological disputes with no grounding in reality so often are.
Treating women with respect is required, for those of us who don't want to be arseholes. Ogling animated women in video games is harmless. And there is no evidence that it leads to the ogling of real live women in real life. So why not?
