Anita Sarkeesian: Women's vs. Men's Rear Ends

I think that one reason she didn't want to finish the series is that each episode ups the risk of her jumping the shark, even with people who are aligned with her.

That isn't a problem. That the solution to the problem of "How do we make lot's of money?"

Yes it is. It makes people believe that women is sex objects.

Really, do you have evidence that video games make people think the way they do as opposed to a reflection of how they already think? What about other mediums where there are sexy women depicted?

How do you differentiate those who are sexually attracted to women, but not men, from those who view them as sex objects? Where do you draw the line between them, why is the line at that particular point instead of another?

Also, why is it a problem that these games are made for men? There are plenty of different types of games to appeal to many tastes. Why is this particular taste wrong?

Don't ask questions. Questions are bad.

the issue here is the presumption of some kind of institutional sexism, when this is simply a facet of if the difference between men and women.
while this is largely anecdotal, there are two characteristics of males and females that i have noticed during the course of my life:
1. men and women both enjoy looking at body parts of their preferred gender, but only men enjoy looking at body parts of their preferred gender all the time and in every context. yes, a woman can dig looking at a man's ass in the right situation, but when it's life-or-death or other extreme circumstances, women generally switch that off in their brain. men do not.
2. women tend to not have their sexual identity and gender identity threatened by the existence of another female's body parts - a woman is capable of looking at another woman's body and not having a socially programmed compulsion to get freaked out by it, whereas by and large men are culturally required to get weirded out by the mere existence of another man's sexual anatomy (be it primary or secondary)

so, bottom line: men like hot video game chicks, women don't give a shit about hot video game men, and men are threatened by hot video game men = you get hot video game women, and not so much hot video game men.

And I've run into females (by voice--not guys pretending to be female) who want a hot chick avatar. I've even run into one that didn't want a buff that would make her less attractive--and was upset when someone didn't hear her request.

She is giving a talk at the University of Washington tonight. I should bring a Gamergate or a Ralph Retort t-shirt.

She wants a solution to the problem of the objectification of women, and proposes less exposure of women's asses in video games. What is really needed to end this problem is girlfriends. If Sarkeesian really wants to solve this problem, she should look in the ranks of feminists who want a boyfriend and set up a dating service, targeted at gamers. Once these guys have a chance to see a real woman's ass, up close and personal, the sale of Princess Leia costumes may go up, but as long as everyone is getting laid, who cares.

If this strategy were employed, we could see a drastic upsurge in Sailor Moon costume sales and a plunge in support for Donald Trump.

Having a partner won't keep a guy from enjoying looking at the female form.

The idea is he'll spend less time playing video games. This is not a guaranteed fix. I know quite a few women who feel neglected because their husband or boyfriend spend too much time playing video games.

In Fable 3 , there are some male prostitutes who show off their (ahem) assets

Obviously it's because they want to look at asses all day.

Good point, not to mention in the previous game Fable II you could marry someone of the same sex. One of the demon doors in Fable II would open only if your character got married. I can't remember if it required you to propose in front of it.

Get back to me when it's scientifically demonstrated that this sexualization of video game characters is psychologically harmful. Otherwise all you have is speculation.

So the incongruity is OK as long as there is no scientific evidence of the effects of the incongruity?

What an amazingly convenient excuse for your double standard.

Asking for scientific evidence of something is now having a "double standard"? I thought that was just part of the skeptical process. What I'm saying is, if Sarkeesian is right, there should be good scientific evidence for it. We have a way to test these things, and the method is science.

Maybe they need to invest in shorter jackets.

So I don't know if you've heard this, but apparently Anita Sarkeesian had a registered sex offender as her twitch.tv chat moderator.

Footage from the trial:

As if Sarkeesian being just plain wrong or a liar/scam artist wasn't enough, she and Jonathan McIntosh go on to hire a paedophile as a chat moderator...

Goddamnit, all I wanted to do was play some videogames...

The fact that games being made for men makes people believe that women are sex objects?

You claimed the "problem" is that games are being made for men. That is not a problem.

Your prior post almost accidentally stumbled on a correct idea, that the reason that these games have sexual women in them is that they are being made for men. The reason games intended to be sold to men would have that is that is what men like. But then you got away from that almost correct idea with this post claiming that the games change how men view women. No they don't. The games sell because they appeal to an strong, innate, and pre-existing attraction among most men to female sexuality. We like big butts and we cannot lie.

So you think pixelated characters are deserving of equal treatment? This stance would raise ethical dilemmas. For instance in the game pac-man while both the ghosts and pac-man can eat each other at different times, the power pellets are never allowed to eat anything. This is certainly unfair, in fact the injustice is even more egregious when you take into account that the dots represent the vast majority of discrete pixels. So pac-man is bigoted and undemocratic.

Its seems every video game has this inherent imbalance among its pixelated constructs. Some objects are objectified while others are agents of objectification. How do you ensure fair and ethical treatment of all the code?

I wonder if she ever said anything about the mission Wang Dang Atomic Tango in Fallout New Vegas, where you have to recruit 3 prostitutes for James Garret. Maybe it's because they look like this:

If Fisto was a Mister Handy robot instead of a Protectron, the jokes would write themselves.
