Arrested for sagging pants, tasered to death in police custody

So people on drugs deserve to die instead of getting treatment?

It's not a matter of deserving to die, but a recognition that it likely would have happened anyway.

Not if they got treatment. That's why treatment programs exist, to prevent people from getting in worse situations. I'm not sure what the conservative obsession with dismissing any form of compassion is about.

Curious, did he have a wrist band that made it obvious to cops he was a biological time bomb and they were free to do whatever?

Try again.

I'm saying that had he not been tased he very well might have died anyway. These guys get all high and agitated, sometimes when they come back down they drop to zero rather than going back to normal.

Now that he is dead I guess we will never know. It seems at ~30 seconds the cops could have carefully exited and left him in the cell.

I didn't realize that this happened... in a cell, with a bunch of guys around him. Why the heck was any of that necessary, forget the tazer?! Check to see if he has any weapons or contraband on him, put him in cell. Let him sober up.

How the fuck can anyone justify that?!

I wonder, what kills more? Illicit drug ODs or cops?
ODs, but that'd seem to be a low bar to aim for.

In practice fewer people get hurt--on either side--if the cops use a taser on the drug-crazed guys.

In the old days the problem of sudden death wasn't recognized because it was simply attributed to the injuries they suffered being subdued. It was only when the taser came along and allowed cops to subdue them without a major beating that it was recognized that there was something else going on.

Please don't make me fish out your apologism explaining in cases where tasers didn't work on people high on drugs... therefore killed by a gun shot.

Could you please point out where you explained why a taser was needed in that case. What were they doing to him that needed to be done and required a taser?

You want the cops to let a nutter wander around and hurt people?? Guys on PCP should not be on the street!!

Great dodge, dude!

But in any case, it should be up to an investigation to determine what, if anything, the officers are guilty of, not the peanut gallery one way or another.

1. Does this apply only to the police officers you consistently defend no matter what they've done, or also to the dead "thugs" they kill? Does your statement above mean that you will no longer speculate about what the victims may or may not have done to deserve their own deaths?

2. Talk Freethought is not an arm of the justice system. If we are not allowed to discuss and speculate on current events, this entire section of the forum is dead.

Have you watched the video. They dragged his limp body into the cell. He wasn't exactly a threat. They used the taser after that point.
