We hear nothing over here on Austalian politics.

What are the issues?

Taxes
immigration
race
conservative liberal physical policy
crime
gay-women's rights
trade
economy-jiobs

Just to provide a bit of context, no one votes for the Prime Minister during an election, with the exception of the electorate they represent. The leader of whichever party that wins the federal election becomes Prime Minister. Conventional wisdom used to be that generally, political parties would change leaders when 1)they lost an election or 2)they are in opposition and public opinion is against them. Doing it whilst in office used to be rare.
To give a gross oversimplification:
Federal:
Most people are pretty fed up with the fact that not a single Prime Minister in the last decade has survived a full term, due to either being a victim of or instigating back room political bullshit (journalists call it a "leadership spill"). The reasoning being, if you can't provide consistent leadership in your own party, how can you provide consistent government? That's the big one, but there also debate on how/if foreign investment should be regulated. Immigration is a concern depending on where you live (trigger issue)
NSW:
The big issue is infrastructure and housing prices (some reports have the median house price in Sydney at $1.1 million)

If you want a detailed, accurate and concise answer, wait for bilby to respond. He's much, much better at explaining this kind of stuff.

And I was thinking Australia was a paradise. Sun, surf, women, and barbecue.
