Even if gas costs $4 per gallon, we should thank Big Oil. Think what they have to do to bring us gas.

Oil must be sucked out of the ground, sometimes from war zones or deep beneath oceans. The drills now bend and dig sideways through as much as 7 miles of earth. What they discover must be pumped through billion-dollar pipelines and often put in monstrously expensive tankers to ship across the ocean.

Then it’s refined into several types of gasoline, transported in trucks that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Finally, your local gas station must spend a fortune on safety devices to make sure we don’t blow ourselves up while filling the tank. And it still costs less per ounce than the bottled water sold at gas stations.

And let's not forget that $.48 average is state and federal excise taxes.

Que up the bitching about negative externalities...
Now, now. None of that. We don't sit on our asses and complain. We are a force for change.
You know, there are bikes well suited for the snow too.

Am I suppose to feel grateful or guilty?

And yes, I buy Nyquil by the gallon, but only buy my printer ink by the drop in heavily expensive packaging.

With the death of the Saudi King and Democrats wanting to raise gas tax, I see the price of gasoline rising.:(

I was just kidding - it's a blatant oversight by the bullshit-artists at AEI.

Tap water?
Don't be foolish - tap water isn't supplied by entrepreneurs, so it doesn't count.

Well I don't know what the average price of tap water in the US is, but I pay $3.86 (AUD) for 264 US gallons; which includes piped delivery to my house, and taking away the used stuff via sewerage and treating and disposal of it.

That's less than 1.2 US cents per US gallon, at today's exchange rate.

And I live on the driest continent on Earth.

I know. I was being sarcastic. About as serious as how seriously the OP should be taken.

Yes, we use too much gas, and we buy it in bulk, and the profit margin on it is razor thin. If it were a regularly packaged liquid product you could expect to spend $10-12 gal I would gather.

Are the costs of the containers and associated shipping costs factored in to these prices? For example, I don't doubt that printer ink is overpriced, but there is also a little tank and (usually) a mini-circuit board that goes with it. Along with the sealed plastic tub it comes in and cardboard packaging. Also, imagine how big a truck you would need to transport the equivalent of 1000 gallons of pre-packaged printer ink cross country versus 1000 gallons of gasoline that is transported in a basic gas truck.

Well, I'm going to start washing my clothes in gasoline to save money!

Is the point of this that bottled water is priced too low or what?
