Bartlesville Man Accidentally Burns Home Down After Lighting Nike Shoes On Fire In Protest Of Nike’s Colin Kaepernick Ad

Because their business model is predicated on people not buying their product?

Their business model is predicated on people buying their higher margin product. It's a common business mistake to assume that all sales are good. They are not. Companies are often far better off to lower volume in sales but increase their margin.

It's insane to believe that any more than a minuscule fraction of Nike's target market agree with Derec's opinions about Kaepernick.

Even in the unlikely event that Derec's assessment was 100% correct in every way, Nike wouldn't give a shit. They are appealing to their target market, and everyone else is irrelevant at worst, and helpful to their cause at best - Nothing galvanises young people to join a fad, trend, or fashion quite as effectively as having old people ranting about how awful it is.

It's possible that Nike don't give a shit what Derec thinks; But it's more plausible that they actively welcome his vocal opposition to their marketing strategy.

These are smart people, and they are focused on selling the brand. Politics is just a tool to them; They don't care one whit about it other than as a means to the end of greater sales.

What is the demographic that is most likely to buy Nike? Probably what matters to the discussion.

Exactly. Multibillion dollar corporations like Nike do not advertise on a whim. They contract huge Madison Avenue advertising companies to do in depth research on demographics, conduct focus groups, etc. This is an ad company that has been in the mix for quite awhile.
