Believe in God in 5 minutes.

When you ASSUME there is a Creator, then everything else falls into place: he is the /god of the Bible.

Summary:
"I don't understand where stuff came from, therefore magic!"

Of course the funniest part is the claim that physics proves god. If physics proved god, then physicists would be more likely to be theists than other kinds of scientists. Instead, physicists are less likely to be theists than other kinds of scientists.

Possible explanations:

  1. Physicists don't understand physics as well as Christians understand physics
  2. Physicists are part of a vast international satanic conspiracy against god
  3. Christians don't understand physics as well as physicists understand physics

I just assumed there was a creator.

I also just realized the creator created me and the ant.

And to something that can create universes there isn't much difference between the two.

So either me and the ant neither have an immortal "soul".

Or there are going to be a lot of ants in heaven.

Yes. It's obvious that the real problem is that no one has explained it well enough.

This is an interesting statement because it's true.

But the other issue is that each one of us lives in one's own state of consciousness, one's own
level of awareness.

How could one explain it well enough that it would ring true with everyone?

Religious people hold on to God because 'immortality' is assured, on the other hand science impresses a lot of them ...therefore if a God exists then its purest expression is reality itself.

If the teachings of the faith are God’s revelation of the truth;... science, the product of human reason, is the search for truth.
The “correct faith“, therefore, cannot be opposed to “good science” because “truth” is the object of both.

A point of convergence? Agreement?

If the religious actually thought that way then there would be no conflict. Unfortunately, religion is about much more than assuring immortality. Among many other things that is it, it provides answers to why the world is as we see it. Those answers that were given thousands of years ago turned out to need correction by scientific inquiry. If the religious had thought "oh great, so that is how god did it" rather than clinging to the old answers and seeing the better understanding as a challenge to their faith, then religion could be a "search for truth".

But then religion does offer a form of security to the insecure. They just come to rely on that crutch way the hell too much.

Fair enough, I was probably being overoptimistic, even Freud agrees with you:

"Religion is the process of unconscious wish fulfilment, where, for certain people, if the process did not take place it would put them in self-danger of coming to mental harm, being unable to cope with the idea of a godless, purposeless life." — Sigmund Freud

#2 works for an evil genius.
