A few weeks ago Biden paused new LNG exports due to pressure from so-called environmentalists.
Biden pauses LNG export approvals after pressure from climate activists
But for all the hate priapism groups like Sunrise Movement nurse for natural gas, restricting it will not really help the environment.
Biden’s LNG decision will make it harder to reach our climate goals
Note that both of the authors are Democrats. And they are right. Coal is by far the dirtiest fuel source, and battling both climate change and air pollution requires us to get out of coal as soon as possible. One nitpick with the example of Germany. Their need to use more coal has also a lot to do with their saublöden Schnapsidee (idiotic idea, translated freely, or "pig-stupid booze idea" translated literally) to exit nuclear power generation.
WaPo's editorial board is not impressed either.
Biden’s LNG decision is a win for political symbolism, not the climate
Neither are Sens. Manchin, Fetterman and Casey.
Biden’s LNG export pause “unjustified,” should be reversed, Senator Manchin says
Not that it seems to be working for him politically. In a recent poll, Biden is trailing Trump by 8 in Pennsylvania, an extremely important swing state with 19 electoral votes. He is underperforming Casey by 9 points (who is running for reelection in the Senate) in the same poll.
Biden pauses LNG export approvals after pressure from climate activists
That is my chief problem with Biden. He is too susceptible to being manipulated by the far left.Reuters said:U.S. President Joe Biden on Friday paused approvals for pending and future applications to export liquefied natural gas (LNG)from new projects, a move cheered by climate activists that could delay decisions on new plants until after the Nov. 5 election.
Environmentalists hailed the move and canceled sit-in protest planned at DOE headquarters next month.
"This is a milestone," said Roishetta Ozane, founder and director of The Vessel Project of Louisiana and a leading voice in the opposition to the LNG build-out, who said her family's health is affected by these terminals. "It sets the stage for potential rejections and slows down progress of these projects."
Michelle Weindling, political director of the youth-based Sunrise Movement said the pause would help Biden get support from young voters in November.
"It needs to be seen that leaders are leading boldly and unapologetically to solve this crisis," she said.

Biden’s LNG decision will make it harder to reach our climate goals
Mary Landrieu and Tim Ryan @ The Hill said:China is orchestrating a massive investment in solar and wind power to meet its growing energy needs, installing as much renewable energy capacity as the rest of the world combined, six years ahead of schedule.
However, this impressive success story masks an ugly truth: Without natural gas as a foundation, this renewable power is inextricably linked with rapidly expanding coal-burning in order to ensure grid reliability, which is creating more harm than good for our climate.
China quadrupled permits for new coal power plants in 2022, building six times more than all other countries. It now burns more coal than the rest of the world combined. Although China is the most disturbing example, the use of coal is expanding across developing countries in Asia, including India — which also, despite its push for renewables, will be heavily reliant on coal for the next several decades. Coal today accounts for 44 percent of global emissions, with nearly 70 percent coming from two countries, China and India. Even Germany, Europe’s leader on renewable power installation, is turning its coal-fired plants back on to restore grid reliability in the absence of sufficient natural gas supply because of the war in Ukraine.

WaPo said:Currently accounting for 22 percent of global primary energy consumption, natural gas will remain crucial to the world’s energy mix through 2050, even as alternative energy use grows, according to the latest International Energy Agency projections. Though it’s a fossil fuel and, as such, a source of carbon dioxide emissions, gas still provides baseload grid power needed to complement renewable electricity, and it’s generally cleaner than coal.

On Friday, however, that same Biden administration ordered a de facto halt to the approval of new facilities for exporting the resource to countries with which the United States does not have free-trade agreements — a category that includes all of Europe. It’s an election-year sop to climate activists that will do much more to unsettle vital U.S. alliances than to save the planet.
At issue were federal permits for LNG projects planned on the Gulf of Mexico coast. One of these, known as Calcasieu Pass 2, or CP2, has already secured financing, and the company that owns the Louisiana facility had signed a 20-year contract to supply Germany. But under the new Biden administration policy, approvals could be delayed through the November election, while regulators apply heightened scrutiny to the impacts on carbon emissions and domestic energy costs.
