Climate Change(d)?

Methane is natural. Real men can breathe pure methane with no ill effect.
The testosterone injections will protect us from the methane!

The current high pressure system over the southern US is the strongest I have ever seen. There’s normal Florida hot and then there is whatever we are currently experiencing.

While hot and humid is fairly normal in central Georgia in August, climate change is rapidly becoming worse in other parts of the world.

I’m writing this on another sweltering 33-degree day in London; at this point, they’ve almost started to feel routine. We’re watching wildfires consume hundreds of thousands of hectares across France and Spain. This year’s fire season is already breaking records, and it’s not over yet.

Europe has had a rough summer. A season that not so long ago was associated with holidays and relaxation doesn’t feel quite the same when thousands of excess deaths are being attributed to heat. Today, my colleagues Mark Landler, our Paris bureau chief, who’s been covering the fires in France, and Chico Harlan, our global climate correspondent, write about whether we’re witnessing a moment of reckoning for the continent and climate change.

Ravenous fires. Searing heat waves. Freakish storms. The summer of 2026 has already shattered meteorological records in several European countries. On a continent that has weathered centuries of upheaval — ruinous wars, deadly pandemics — it’s the weather that now has Europe feeling close to a breaking point.

It has displaced more than 300,000 people in France and Spain, where the largest fires in those countries’ modern histories have led to their largest peacetime evacuations. It has left millions desperate for relief from temperatures that routinely soar above 40 degrees Celsius.

It has forced the cancellation of concerts and festivals, curtailed the final stage of the Tour de France, and closed the Louvre Museum and the Eiffel Tower early. It has brought wildfires to the Scottish Highlands. And it has caused at least 10,000 heat-related deaths across Europe in June alone — a number that may turn out to be an undercount.

The most frightening aspect of Europe’s terrible summer? Scientists say it’s just the beginning.

“It will inevitably get worse,” said Johan Rockström, a Swedish scientist who is a director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany. “It will get worse and worse and worse, to the point where, I’m afraid, we’ll be passing the limits of adaptation.”

And, climate change is having an impact on the economy. I'm going to link another shared article.

Heat, Fire, Smoke and Storms Are Wreaking Havoc on the Economy

Businesses are reckoning with the financial toll of this year’s brutal climate shocks.

In early June, the power went out at Stephanie Hart’s bakery on Chicago’s South Side, during an intense storm and a suffocating heat wave.

Five hundred ice cream bars meant for a restaurant customer had already perished, along with chocolate candies, and $30,000 worth of cakes in her walk-in freezer were at risk.

Ms. Hart quickly directed her staff to pack the freezer with dry ice, which cost $1,700. Then she began calling every politician she knew. “Every good-will thing I’ve ever done, I called it in,” Ms. Hart said. Finally, it worked: The utility turned her power back on the next day, and her cakes were saved.

Ms. Hart was relieved. But she’s not resting easy — the power outages that have followed more frequent summer storms in Chicago could still wipe out her inventory. So she has been making more of her cakes to order, which means slower delivery times and more intermittent work. For next summer, she’s contemplating an expensive backup generator.

Economists have long studied the worsening impact of climate change on economic growth, inflation and employment. Most estimates for damage caused to date have been moderate, while projections for damage over the long run become more drastic. But the past year has delivered climate-related shocks that are becoming impossible for businesses to avoid.

“Without these reoccurring annual events, it’s easy to say, ‘It’s part of our enterprise risk-management system, so we’re going to get to this,’” said Alexander Heil, a climate-focused economist at the Conference Board. “Nothing focuses the attention more than an emergency.”

It's a powerful article. I read it too yesterday.

But it's not on FOX. It's on the NYT. So the MAGAturds and the MAGA politicians who control this will never see it or will say that it's just a Woke scam. Trump certainly will if he ever hears of it. (He doesn't read. So someone will have to tell him about it.)

The world is going to burn. Millions will die of food scarcity and water scarcity and heat. And the MAGAturds will call it a scam until they also die. Because experts say that it's true and because MAGA says it's a scam, it must be a scam.

I'm just glad that I probably won't live another 20 years. But my kids and grand kids are in for a horrible time.

I agree. I Often feel bad about the world we're leaving our kids and grandkids, and to be brutally honest, I often wonder why anyone who understands climate change is having children at all. Perhaps they are more optimistic than I am. At least my grandkids are in their teens and probably will enjoy a little bit of adult life before the planet becomes close to inhabitable.

In Ohio, for July, the month started out brutally, but the mercury for the month only a little higher than average due to a cool off late in the month. The nation, on average, however, over 3 degrees warmer than average.

Except for a few hot spells summer right now is around normal. Upper 50s lower 60s at night. Around 80 late afternoon.

Wore a mask for smoke a few days.

Temps finally fell enough that cormorants were warming their wings by the lake this morning.
