And they make a big deal about any passage that comes to align with modern scientific understanding, even if the 'correctitude' of the passage is an accident, or a matter of interpretation.Christians and Muslims don't have any answers to origin questions. They have stories made up by Bronze Age people who understood very little about how the universe works.
Because the parts that don't align, either:
(1) science is wrong. Not that they can show an actual fault in the methodology, but they don't like the conclusion so they reject the answer.
(2) the passage is wrong. They won't quite say that directly. It's another interpretation. It's poetry, metaphor, an error in translation, but ultimately there's some reason to reject the holy source document in favor of the more acceptable conclusion.
