Krzyzewski, the all-time winningest coach in college basketball explained, "We're the thing that the NCAA is most concerned about because men's college basketball and the tournament pays for something like 98% of the, it produces 98% or more of the money for the NCAA."

"We need to have the tournament. We can't have it where two years in a row you do not have the NCAA tournament," he continued.

Krzyzewski believes the NCAA should look to model the example set by the so-far successful, isolated Disney campus the NBA is utilizing this season.

There is just so much wrong with this. Firstly, the NCAA has to hold the tournament because MONEY!!! That money argument tripled to quadrupled the number of people dying a day in Texas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, etc... I'm sick of hearing people saying we need to allow people to needlessly die because MONEY!!!

Secondly, at times I think Americans forget that College sports use college students to play games. Use an "isolated" bubble for the tournament. That is a great idea... except unlike professional athletes that get paid and play sports for a living, college sports involves college students who are supposedly going to college! Now for a rare few of these people, they are in the NBA Minor in reality, but in for almost every other basketball player, they are taking courses which don't exactly mesh well with a self-imposed quarantine to play basketball!

Young athletes are very, very unlikely to die from Covid19. Don't you ever get tired of scaremongering ?

How many times does it need to be repeated that a) there are other negative fates from the virus than dying, and b) people who catch the virus aren't only dangers to themselves? At this point, not understanding these simple facts is just willful ignorance, most likely fueled by a political ideology.

But surely some of them live with older people, e.g., one of their parents or both. Even if they do not, they're not very unlikely to pass it to other people, and so on.

No shit Sherlock. Covid-19’s issue is with the spread and ease it gets to people it will harm. But you know that. You just like to waste people’s time.

The vast, VAST majority of people who contract this virus are unaffected, most people don't even show any symptoms. A virus so lethal, you have to be tested to find out if you have it. These are simple facts you choose to ignore for political ideology.

Stay home and listen to it on the wireless if you are so afraid.

But surely some of them live with older people, e.g., one of their parents or both. Even if they do not, they're not very unlikely to pass it to other people, and so on.

They should take precautions, like don't go to long term care facilities where more than 50% of covid deaths have occurred. Cover your mouth if you sneeze or cough, wash your hands frequently, wear a mask. Stay home.

Can you quantify "vast, VAST"? I would think that number would have to be at least 90% or 95% to be considered a 'vast, vast majority' and I don't think the purely asymptomatic contractors are that high. Can you quote some statistics on that? If it is a "simple fact" you can surely point to its documentation.

And your argument is that because most people are unaffected by it, we shouldn't take any actions (even relatively simple ones) that might save the people who will not be unaffected by it. The needs of the many vastly, VASTLY outweighs the needs of the few?

I have no political ideology at stake with the coronavirus. You are stating that without evidence.

But the problem is that when playing sports, they can't take those precautions. Over here, we've been in lockdown for over 4 months now - and I haven't been allowed beyond 5 blocks from my home since -, and masks are mandatory everywhere except at home. But compliance with the lockdown has fallen considerably (which is in part the reason it was relaxed, as it was beginning to be unenforceable), and that is putting serious pressure on the health care system. Despite the fact that the number of available hospital beds has increased over 2 fold this year (just to try to handle COVID19), there is significant pressure on the system, at least in the part of the city outside the federal district. So far, it is holding, and maybe it will if we get herd immunity - we do not know the threshold -, or a vaccine.

If the virus were so not dangerous as you think, why are so many health care systems across Latin America either under pressure or overwhelmed?
Sure, these are not systems as advanced or strong as those of developed countries. But the point is that something has changed significantly. They did not have these problems before covid19 - they had others, but this is new.

That would even be compatible with a massive 10% lethality. Fortunately, it's not nearly as bad. But people are dying or suffering serious consequences at rates much higher than before with other diseases. Yes, ideology results in some people thinking it's worse than it is. But that cuts both ways. Ideology also results in some people thinking it's not nearly as bad. And in this case, the latter is much more dangerous to people's lives and health.

Don't waste my time. You know perfectly well that the vast majority of people that contract this virus come away unscathed. A virus so lethal, you need to take a test to see if you have it.

that's not my argument, you just made that up.

But the problem is that when playing sports, they can't take those precautions.

So what ? They could get a concussion, a leg break, an Achilles rupture, all sorts of injuries and you are fussing about a virus that basically has no effect on young people, let alone young athletes ?

If the virus were so not dangerous as you think, why are so many health care systems across Latin America either under pressure or overwhelmed?

It is dangerous to the elderly and already sick.

The effect is the spread. Also, being amateur athletes, it seems pretty fucking ridiculous to use money as the reason to go ahead with March Madness. If we don’t use this free labor to make $1 billion, it’ll be a disaster.

Although I’ve heard that High Schools in Ohio are playing football. And no one is getting paid for that.

So, as I mentioned, they can get the virus and pass it on to other people. For example, they can pass it to their parents and kill them if they live with them (or one of them), which is the case for a number of them. Or they can just pass it on to strangers, who pass it to others, and so on.

Mostly, sure, and also dangerous to many other people, in proportions much bigger than other infectious diseases around here. Otherwise, we would not see the sort of pressure we are seeing on the health care systems, despite the lock downs and the more than doubling in the number of hospital beds.

However, if it were only dangerous to the elderly and already sick, there is the same issue: young athletes can pass it to their elderly parents, or just pass it to others, and contribute to further spread of the virus, which will of course invariably reach many elderly and sick people.

Not necessarily. Stop obsessing about it.

Not necessarily. Seriously, stop obsessing about it. Or if you are that terrified, stay home, stay away from everyone, lock grandma in the back room or take what ever precautions you feel like are appropriate and let everyone else move on.

You need to remember, the lockdown was not implemented to stop the virus, it was implemented to prevent the health services being overrun. That has been achieved, it's time to start opening up. This idea that we remain in perpetual lockdown is ridiculous. How long are we to remain in lockdown ? Until we have a vaccine ? Until there are no cases ? Until we have achieved immortality ?

A drunk driver will not necessarily hit someone. But they are a serious threat. And if you have thousands of drunk drivers at once, almost certainly they will hit someone.

No, you should stop criticizing people for not behaving like drunk drivers, or for pointing out when others are.

And they're getting closer to the point of saturation over here, due to the opening up in part, and in part due to increasing breaches. But the point remains: if the virus is so not bad as you say, why is there so much pressure on the health care system, despite its improvements? Where does the pressure come? Where do the dead come, if not from the virus?

Sure. But I'm not saying we will. I'm saying the virus is much more dangerous than you believe. And not having sports like these is not lock down.
