A million dollars is much more than those BART workers would have made in the time they lost their jobs, so some of the award must be punitive toward the company.

The article you point to sounds more like BART is just incompetent, because they were supposed to be able to accommodate those employees, who said they had religious reasons for not getting the vaccine. They could not prove that the employees couldn't have been reasonably accommodated and so they lost the case.

If there isn't a law then the legislature should work on a law to put these tyrants in jail. And if there isn't a such a law right now (and there probably isn't) these eight board members should at the very least be barred from holding any position in government.
