Covid-19 miscellany

Why isn't infection treated in a similar manner to vaccination?

Wouldn't infection be similar to having an injected and nasal vaccine at the same time?

Because, no matter how many times the Republicans pretend they're the same they're not. Infection confers good protection against that strain, but provides little protection against variants. That's why we've never had a coronavirus vaccine before--standard techniques produce a vaccine that quickly becomes ineffective. The spike-protein targeted vaccines confer much broader protection--not merely against the strain they are engineered for but against variants also.

Note that while the current vaccine doesn't provide much protection against Omicron infection it still confers well over 90% protection against getting seriously ill.

Note that I am using Eric Motherfucking Topol, the guy who made sure that the vaccine EUA happened after the election. One of the most respected medical guys who is not senile like the HIV discoverer.
They didn't have the data earlier.

It has been known from the beginning that Covid has little affect on kids. The infection fatality rate for those aged 5 to 9 is less than 0.001 percent. Adults can get vaccinated. There is no benefit to anyone to treat children like lepers; denying them their childhood because some selfish neurotic adults can’t break from their Covid cult. As for your restaurant recommendations: you wear a mask alone in the car, right?

It's not about protecting the kids, it's about protecting their families. Until Omicron it did little to most kids--but they brought it home and killed family members.

The three top epidemiological authorities in the U.S. are Anthony Fauci, Donald Trump and Alex Jones and, although all three have been vaccinated, two out of 3 do NOT support MANDATORY vaccinations.
Mandatory vaccinations are a political decision, not a medical decision.
Congratulations on completely missing the point!

Reread my post, this time for comprehension. The POLITICAL decision (you got this much right, Duuh) should be based on the EPIDEMIOLOGICAL science regarding the threat which the unvaccinated pose to OTHERS.

Also, the heparin brouhaha between Metaphor and Loren is par for the course for being unproductive with good data. We need to move heaven and earth to work on the clotting aspect of covid, especially since omicron even with much less lung issues is still a clotting disaster for the unlucky not few enough.

Clotting, clotting, clotting. Keep repeating it until moves the needle.

Clotting is one of the major ways Covid kills and one of the big ways Covid deaths are undercounted. (Clot out not in the hospital, add poor evaluation of the cause of death and it gets reported as heart attack/stroke/pulmonary embolism.)

However, the "with covid" cases they are talking about now is patients where Covid destabilized existing health problems--the straw that broke the camel's back.

TMZ and a Green Bay Packers quarterback. Oh, the.......slight bit of heat, like the stub of a birthday candle burnt down to a nub and still a little warm?

Not TMZ, POTUS.

Anyway, Biden’s comments about Rodgers is very odd and uncalled for.

No. You do not get it.

Scientific modelling can and should be used to inform politicians of best and worse case scenarios.

"If we lockdown for two weeks, what effect will that have on slowing infection?"

"If we force vaccination on unconsenting adults, what effect will that have on total death rate"?

Modelling can answer those questions. Modelling cannot answer "Ought we force vaccination on unconsenting adults?" That is a political and philosophical question.

I am not authorized to speak for Jason, but many agree that harming one's-self, albeit stupid, should be legal, while stupidly harming others may be regulated. Drinking bleach hurts only yourself and is a personal choice. Feeding bleach to others is illegal.

Not wearing a helmet should be legal since the only likely victim is one's-self; driving while drunk OTOH could easily lead to the death of another person.
I understand and thank-you for the response. But if you think about that claim it it shortsighted and not true. The fact is that you are costing other people lots of trouble and in many cases endangering their lives. Clearly you are nothing like the sole victim. That's just a selfish, immature, childish fantasy if that's indeed what they believe. Now if these folks all refused medical or emergency care because of their decisions then I could respect their choice. But that's not what they do.

It's called scientific illiteracy.

Rosie Diven, a mother of three in rural South Carolina, had no idea her 16-year-old son had COVID-19 until a fearsome syndrome nearly killed him.

Branson Diven had been vomiting and suffering a loss of appetite when Rosie brought him to an urgent care center near their home in Hartsville on Dec. 10. He did not have classic COVID symptoms such as a sore throat or a cough, and after testing negative for COVID and positive for flu, he was sent home under the assumption he would soon be better.

Six days later, Branson seemed sicker...

My mechanic had a Christmas party with vaccinated and unvaccinated people. All the unvaccinated people got COVID19. All the vaccinated people did not...The sick had a horrible time, and he took two weeks to go back to work.
The moral of the story is VACCINATE!!!

No, no, no, no NO! The moral of the story is personal freedom. Namely, I have the freedom to make YOU pay for my arrogance and childish stupidity, not to mention my scientific illiteracy.

Let's go Branson!

Mandatory vaccinations are a political decision, not a medical decision.
Mandatory vaccinations are a political decision not a medical decision in the same sense that having standards for clean drinking water in any municipality is a political decision and not a medical one.

Lets see:
"I can buy my water at the grocery store. I don't have to drink their water."
"I can drill a well."
"What if I'm a horse? You can't make me drink."
"I'll collect rainwater from the roof."
"The water authority is corrupt."
"Communists!"
"Socialism!"

Did you ever see a commie drink a glass of water?

Biden said:
If you are fully vaccinated, you no longer need to wear a mask.

Let me repeat. If you are fully vaccinated, you no longer need to wear a mask
Let's Go Brandon!!

Posted May 13th, 2021. Pre omicron.

Pre Delta, even.

I continued to wear a mask at that point because I expected Delta to happen. (In the general case--I was expecting a variant to show up, not the specific sequence of events we saw.) Without the variant threat I would have gone back to life as normal.

Not wearing a helmet should be legal since the only likely victim is one's-self; driving while drunk OTOH could easily lead to the death of another person.

Helmet laws are because society ends up caring for the brain damaged results.

Did you ever see a commie drink a glass of water?
Nope. The only commies I know normally drink tea. :)

(Admittedly, they are merely members of the "communist" party, not communist in ideology.)

Do you have evidence of this? That the current vaccines give broader protection than an infection.
