Dear White America, which form of protest do you actually prefer?

A simple question.

The most common, politically correct refrain I have heard from white critics of Colin Kaepernick's silent protest during the "Star-Spangled Banner" is that they kind of understand his motivations for protesting, but they just don't like his methods

...

Well, I have a question.

Exactly which form of our protest do you actually prefer?

You hated when Cleveland Browns player Andrew Hawkins wore a "I Can't Breathe" T-shirt before a game.

You hated when Lebron James did the same thing.

You hated when several players from the St. Louis Rams simply put their hands up in the air before a game in solidarity with unarmed victims of police brutality.

When we march across the country, you mock us.

When we block intersections and hold up traffic, your blood boils.

When we simply express our concerns on Twitter and Facebook, we receive extreme opposition.

I guess that is black fragility - can't handle their opinions being challenged or attacked in any way. If you protest, you should accept that many people might not like what you are protesting about and voice their opinions just as forcefully as you voiced yours.

If that quarterback guy has the right to protest against America then other Americans have the right to voice their opinion of the quarterback. Free speech goes both ways.

Also, when professional athletes make on-field protests, they are doing that while they are "on the clock". Not too many employees would be fine with their employees protesting while they are supposed to be working.

P.S.: Oh, an article written by Shaun King. How precious, if you like logical fallacies and wild-ass speculation that usually turns out to be wrong (like that the deaf guy did not know he was being pulled over).

Just point out that a lot of people don't like to mix their sports and politics. Don't preach to me; just play ball. That's why you get paid the millions.

Nice false choices. It's not about "picking" what kind of protest we "like". It's about asking blacks to act like responsible citizens. But since asking blacks to be responsible for anything is immediately called RACIST!!!!! nothing is going to change.

I think it is obvious from the responses so far - White America prefers protests that it does not have to see or can very easily ignore.

well, since i'm a moderately successful independently affluent 30-something white male in a medium-large city urban environment, my preferred form of protest against racial bias or culturally ingrained suspicion against my entire ethnicity is none of my business because i have no idea what the fuck i'm talking about.

this should be the default viewpoint of basically everyone.

There is no "White America". When will we stop talking about races as if everybody with that trait is interchangeable and of the same views and opinions?

Dude, no matter what happens no one can beat white people at that shit. Just look at what happened with Hitler or Stalin. Or, you know, the slave trade.

You are absolutely correct in this statement. Obviously their employer is okay with it though.
And so is my white ass.

Of course there is a "White America". Who do you think Trump is attracting?
I'm partial to a United States.

I could really care less about the whole not standing for the national anthem. I'm sick and tired of the "outrage" culture where people get upset over the dumbest of trivialities.

However, if someone like Kapernick wishes to protest and minimize their encounter with outrage culture and especially his fans, these might be some more constructive methods:

-Hold a private press conference to talk about the issues
-Peacefully protest with a group in front of a police headquarters without blocking any traffic
-Attend city meetings and express concerns there
-Protest at a busy intersection (no blocking of traffic) after obtaining the proper permits
-Set up or support a political group to help make the changes you are seeking and to advocate for whichever city council members you deem supportive of your aims
-Engage in constructive dialogue with the police department and advocate for regular meetings between members of the community and the associated police department leadership for that area

Not sure this answers the question of why it matters that he did what he did.

Ever notice how no matter what happens conservatives will always rally to protect the authority figures rather than anyone else?

So, would you prefer black people did not protest? If not, what how would you prefer they did it?

Funny how that works out

You must have missed the part of our recent history when those "fragile" blacks were attacked with dogs, fire hoses, and beaten for daring to protest.

Or the other part before that when engaging in a protest (or merely looking at a white person the wrong way) could lead to lynching.

Or the part before than when blacks couldn't protest because they were slaves.

Oh, and on the topic of Kaepernick's salary, at what level of compensation does one no longer have the right to voice their opinion? People seem to have quite a beef with the fact that this guy - who gets paid millions of dollars - is speaking his mind (or rather, sitting silently). Yet I'm pretty certain that in this country we've decided - at the Supreme Court even - that money equals speech, and the more of it you have, the more your speech should carry weight.

We've put a price on speech, but a millionaire suddenly has to keep his mouth shut? That couldn't have anything to do with the fact that he's descended from the kind of people who used to have the fire hoses and dogs sicced on them, could it?
