Define God

I like to picture a future civilization where this determined search for a definition of god/God is just too damn silly for words. Where there are no more televangelists or divinity schools. Or politicians telling you their religious musings.
The fun part is that freethinkers can have that situation in their own lives now.
I already do.

"Define god, even though I'm the one who brought it up in the first place."

God is what a theist believes. Since there are billions of theists, there also are at least a million definitions of God. Choose what you like.
Atheists have no such problem.

God is all things, yet not a thing; Everywhere yet nowhere. The never was that will always be. God is what many believe they grasp, only to realize they do not.

By all accounts, he -- somehow, god is a he -- is a helpful but amazingly capricious being who helped my aunt find her contact lens in a Best Western and, later, to get over strep throat. However, he refused to save even one of the 150,000 victims who were massacred at Babi Yar. So you figure out the rubric.
Also, he saved Trump in Butler, PA, so Trump could keep America great.

I'll take a crack at it: a being cabable of creating a Universe with intent or in some way being involved with fundamental aspects of its creation. (This definition does not include gods who may have been in a coma for who knows how long, which could explain some things).

Hey, I'm pretty good at this. Maybe I actually do know what I'm talking about and there's just another theist bullshitting.

Still no progress on a definition of god?
A man is defined by his deeds; perhaps the same will work for a god.
One thing we know about god's deeds is that God made Trump.

Somebody added some anti-Trump propaganda ("Ivanka is a piece of ass") at the end of that video. Just watch the first 2½ minutes the original video.
We can assume that this mini-documentary about the Creation of The Donald is Holy Scripture: It was endorsed (reposted) by the Orange Messiah Himself. This reposting by the Messiah is rather remarkable given that some on the left detected a smidgen of sarcasm in this mini-documentary.

I vaguely remember and old scifi story about a legend about counting all the names of god.

At the end when the guy does it the universe starts to wink out.

My other definition is "an allegedly supernatural being people worship for some reason" which might be more accurate.

"Define god, even though I'm going to call you all ignorant ideologues and school you in my conviction that god can be a Dove Bar, a typewriter, or a box of Arm & Hammer baking soda."

So ignorant. Humor is often ignorant. You think you're funny, but you're only ignorant. You and other ignorant people think what you say is funny because it's wrong but you think you're right. It's like someone laughing at Ignaz Semmelweis for rejecting the miasmatic school of medicine, or someone who believed the world was flat before all of the idiots were finally convinced it wasn't. You can't define what a god is because you think it's something else. It's that simple.

This is why I have stoped takeing part in this thread.

Obviously. If you should decide in your infinite wisdom to stop takeing part in any other threads beneath you be sure and keep us updated.

That's only one example of a god or God. It isn't a definition or explanation. A god or God is anything or anyone that is venerated, i.e. respected. Anything. Anyone. The definition of god or God isn't "supernatural being who allegedly created life, the universe and everything" it is anything or anyone worshipped including any of the many alleged supernatural beings who are thought to have created those things. Zeus, for example, was a god. God of the Greek pantheon. He didn't create anything. He was the youngest of his siblings.

So dumb.
