Democrats 2020

Back to 2020. Kamala Harris made her official announcement this weekend. And, the governor of Washington said he is seriously considering running. He said his platform will be primarily based on global climate change and creating jobs in the industries that make renewable sources of energy. Does anyone who lives in Washington have an opinion about him? ( I think his name is Inslee )

I also read a few days ago that the former CEO of Starbucks is also seriously considering running as a Democrat. ( Shultz, I think. I can't remember all these names. ) This is crazy. He's another billionaire who seems ego driven. Haven't we learned our lesson with Trump?
He was governor when I lived there (and has been re-elected I think twice now). The rednecks in the state hate him, which is almost enough on its own to make me like him. ;)

WA is a weird mix of liberal policies, and conservative, even regressive economics, so it's hard to tell how much of that the governor influenced. I'd put him in the middle of the pack in terms of my current preferences (with Harris near the bottom). I'd have to do some more research on him though and see exactly what his policy positions are. I suspect I'd like him on his domestic ideas, but I would have no idea what his foreign policy ideas might be.

Eric Garcetti has dropped out of the race. This came as a surprise to everyone who wasn't aware that he was in the race in the first place.

That's a disappointment. I was really looking forward to googling him in four or five months and finding out who he was.

Jay Inslee has been around for a long time. I'm surprised he's foreign to you.

I saw him interviewed yesterday, but I can't even remember who interviewed him. I don't know every single politician in the country. There are far too many for me to remember. It's hard enough keeping up with the ones in my own state. :D

Cory Booker jumped into the race this morning. I like him, but I don't think very many people do. I doubt he will get the nomination. He supports many of the Democratic Socialist positions, but he also supports business. That makes sense to me, but...... Anyway, one more person to consider. How many others will jump into the race, is anybody's guess.

Hopefully, money isn't going to have much to do with the race, because I read that Trump has already built up over 129 million dollars. Surprisingly, 75% was from small donors, so there's still a lot of suckers out there who believe in him.

Or believed... I do remember that they found that once you signed up to donate a monthly subscription to him, it was almost impossible to stop payments.

I hope you're right. I do know that Trump is losing supporters, but does that mean that they will vote for a Democrat? Who knows? The only Republicans that I know still support him. One is wealthy. One is poorly informed and I just might try to convince her to change parties. She's a very nice person who is clueless when it comes to politics. The other one is a nurse. I don't get why she still adores him, but it might have something to do with the wall, guns and conservative judges. I avoid discussing politics with her and we really aren't that close.

Current LA Mayor, and if memory serves he was a Homicide detective and a Judge in Baltimore... but I might be getting too brain saturated with David Simon. I didn't need to look that up. I think this was more of a "I'm not running", than dropping out. People were pondering if he would run. Being the mayor of LA would help him secure the California electoral votes. ;)

Who doesn't like him and why?

I'm sure many Trump supporters don't like him. Some only because his color is a nicer shade than orange.

I don't like him because he's generally bought and paid for by big pharma, and as such he tends to vote against anything that would make it easier for people to import drugs into the US from elsewhere, for example. Only McConnell receives more in donations from pharma than Booker, now that Hatch is gone. So, basically just another corporate liberal who doesn't really stand for much of anything and thinks every problem is just waiting for the free market to be unleashed, solving it to the satisfaction of all parties

You make good points but I still think he is a strong Democratic candidate.

Northam could get a lot of Trump voters.

The wisdom of saying there are more old drunks than old doctors when it is only because there are a lot more young drunks than doctors.

Doctors are rare.

Drunks common.

Closeted racists in the US common.

Booker is young but a rising star.

I see no other Democratic candidate that has more charisma or intelligence.

Unfortunately we live in a society where a presidential candidate has to raise incredible sums of money.

That pollutes the whole process which should only be about ideas.
