Democrats 2020

Amy Klobuchar interview with Washington Post Editorial Board: Transcript - The Washington Post - detailed interview. Some highlights:
On coronavirus: “I think that to give people confidence right now, you want a president who is completely rational at all times, who is calming the fears of the nation, worrying about people’s health and trying to do the right thing. And that has not been his M.O. since he got into office. And I think it could become very problematic here.”

“We are not going to have a shortage of sports marketing degrees. We’re going to have a shortage of plumbers. And those are well-paying jobs, by the way.”

“You can’t just have someone buy their way into the election. But the particular way this has gone on in this primary … has made it harder for other candidates to emerge. And I think that’s a legitimate problem.”

“So I’m just telling you how evil this is gonna be. And it’s not just Facebook and Twitter, it’s all these platforms where the bad ads are gonna go. So I think passing the Honest Ads Act would be a big first step.”

“I just think the rule of law can’t handle four more years of [Trump] and our democracy can’t handle four more years of someone who bulldozes through it. And the American dream can’t handle four more years of someone who thinks he can pick who lives it.”

Trump is “treating the farmers and workers like poker chips at one of his bankrupt casinos, not really caring what happens in the long term. That’s what he was like as a businessman. And that’s what he’s doing right now.”
She seems rather sensible in that interview.

Hollywood Reacts To Pete Buttigieg Dropping Out Of Presidential Race – Deadline - lots of farewells.

So the centrist lane is now Joe Biden, Amy Klobuchar, and Mike Bloomberg. AK didn't drop out today, though she might do so in the next few days.

Amy needs to drop out too.
As does Warren, really. Neither has a reasonable path to victory.

He's concerned over how much damage a Sanders nomination could do to the party. I wish people could see how full of shit The Sixty Trillion Dollar Man is.
I dislike many of his proposals, especially in 2020 when he has picked up some toxic surrogates, but he is still better than Warren who hasn't met a woke/identitarian issue she didn't like.

Doubtful. It was likely just a lack of name recognition.
Didn't hurt him in Iowa. I think it is the tendency of SC black voters to back a safe candidate, and Biden is as safe as they come, or so goes conventional wisdom.

Buttigieg shouldn't have dropped. He should bide his time, it's possible covid19 will take out all the oldest competitors.

I think he could have stayed in and continued to announce winning in states before the vote counts proved otherwise. It’s hard to slow that kind of momentum.

None of these numbers will hold. The GOP will engage in typical negative campaigning which will decrease potential turnout. The numbers need to be redone and watched once General Election campaigning start, post primary nomination.

It's rather amusing that despite all the Dem's demonization of old, straight white guys and the praising of diversity, it looks like the final contenders for the party's nomination will be old, straight white guys.

They have some.... unacknowledged biases. As a "minority", I do still prefer pandering to outright hostility, though.

Biden looked pretty bad during his Chris Wallace interview Sunday. They'd just played a clip of Trump saying sleepy Biden should be put in a home somewhere and Biden responds that he'd like the voters to see him and Trump standing next to each other and see who looks sleepy. Then he calls Wallace "Chuck". And he just appeared so tired.

So all the early primary votes for Steyer and Buttigieg were wasted. People are asking where the supporters of candidates who drop out will go. But if they've already voted they can't go anywhere.

I've seen rumors and speculations about who Pete Buttigieg is considering endorsing: Joe Biden.

I've also seen rumors and speculations about why Elizabeth Warren and Amy Klobuchar continue to be in the race. They hope that they can win big in their home states, Massachusetts and Minnesota. Thus getting favorite-daughter victories.

Klobuchar rally in Minnesota canceled amid protests - POLITICO
Sen. Amy Klobuchar canceled a rally in her home state Sunday night as several dozen protesters chanted “Black Lives Matter,” “Klobuchar has got to go” and “Free Myon” — referencing the case of a black teenager convicted of murder after a flawed police investigation.
So she's going the way of Kamala Harris.

Klobuchar out, endorsing Biden.

Amy is another victim of thug-loving #BLM. This Myon guy murdered an 11 year old girl while shooting at a rival banger.

There was no gun, fingerprints, or DNA. Alibis were never seriously pursued. Key evidence has gone missing or was never obtained, including a convenience store surveillance tape that Burrell and others say would have cleared him.

Burrell, now 33, has maintained his innocence, rejecting all plea deals.

His co-defendants, meanwhile, have admitted their part in Tyesha’s death. Burrell, they say, was not even there.

For years, one of them -- Ike Tyson -- has insisted he was actually the triggerman. Police and prosecutors refused to believe him, pointing to the contradictory accounts in the early days of the investigation. Now, he swears he was just trying to get the police off his back.

“I already shot an innocent girl,” said Tyson, who is serving a 45-year sentence. “Now an innocent guy -- at the time he was a kid -- is locked up for something he didn’t do. So, it’s like I’m carrying two burdens.”

Since Myon shot her without a gun or DNA, maybe he is one of those super predators we keep hearing about.

It appears Mr. Burrell was wrongly charged and convicted under Ms. Klobuchar's tenure. Even if she did not prosecute the case, as the DA, she holds ultimate responsibility for the conduct of her office. She cannot take credit for the positive achievements and results during her tenure as DA without accepting "credit" for its errors.

Anybody who supports Warren at this point is actively hurting the progressive movement. She has no path to victory and is polling behind in her home state, if she doesn't drop out after tomorrow then it will show she is simply gunning for a VP nod from Biden

It's not that simple. Here is what Hennepin County Attorny had to say about the case:

The evidence is quite strong which is why he was convicted twice. Timothy Oliver was the intended victim of the gun fire and he saw Burrell across the street shooting at him and identified Burrell by his nickname and in a photo lineup. In pleading guilty, one of Mr. Burrell’s gang accomplices testified that Myon Burrell fired the shots. Mr. Burrell also confessed to a cousin that he was involved in the murder of Tyesha Edwards. Burrell also confessed to a jail inmate who knew details of the murder that had never been made public. The judge found the testimony of Oliver, Burrell’s cousin, and the jail inmate credible.

So, it's not like they just picked a random black kid off the street.
