So, Disney kept their mouth shut before the Don't Say Gay bill was passed. They were pressured into some position by the public, and they came out against it, after the fact, and now DeSantis and the GOP have removed the special zoning that has allowed DisneyWorld to be its own self governing plot of land.

How in the heck is this not a dangerous development?! The Florida Legislature just picked this up, passed it, and DeSantis is signing it, all with a few days... during an "emergency" session for some other purpose.

The cancel culture continuously promoted by the republican party for more than 60 years needs to stop.

With all the tax revenue that Disney generates for Florida State, the government would be shooting itself in the foot if they do anything to negatively impact Disney. This is all political bullshit. :ROFLMAO:

This isn't "bullshit". This is an authoritarian threat. Desantis is redrawing the voting districts in Florida. He is trying to run Florida like a dictator would.

Oh yessiree, this Disney move is total political bullshit. Disney (despite what liberals folks may think) is a major donor to Republicans in Florida. They only spoke up (reluctantly) because their customers and employees put them up to it. DeSantis doesn't seem to understand this or doesn't care. It also leads to the local government taking over managing Reedy Creek (which is the place this is mostly about). That will increase taxes for the residents of Osceola & Orange County which is already in an out-of-control rental and homeownership price increase crisis. It won't only affect bLuE CoUnTiEs it will ripple out to all neighboring counties. There is nothing to gain from it. I see no net positives unless you want to count the bullshit Gender Identity politics it's built upon.

Edit: Meant to finish by saying "thus why I call it political bullshit".

His "emergency session" was to pass a huge GERRYMANDERED district map that won't have time to be challenged before the midterms. This scumbag is worse than Rubio, Scott and Trump combined.

He seems to be Trump with political skills.

Not trying. He IS running Florida like a dictatorship. And I see no path for FL to get out of it with the gerrymandered districts. A state that is 50% Democrat, has a house that is 90% Republican already, due to this issue. Only to get worse with the new "maps". Honestly, I wish Disney would say FUCK YOU to DipShitis and threaten to leave the state.

"DeSanitize Florida"

Just heard this morning that Charlie Crist is up 13 points over DeathSentence.

Disney has 80,000 employees. DeSantis won by only about 34,000 votes. Also many more than that number have died of covid.

He's running it like a Republican.

And note that there seems to be a big problem:

1) This is going to push $2B in debt onto the surrounding county. They're not going to like that!

2) It doesn't appear to be legal, anyway.

Woah are you gonna be disappointed in November.

Would the counties now just tax Disney?
What incentive is there for Disney to stay in Florida?
Several hundred millions of dollars, perhaps billion(s) of dollars of infrastructure?

Granted their relationship with Florida politicians is about to radically change.

Protecting billions of dollars it has invested in building the park on 39 square miles since 1967. Disney can't just pull the pegs on it and move it elsewhere.

They can, however, pull the pegs on their political support and throw some massive weight behind ousting Florida Republicans at the polls.

My husband and I HAD a Disney trip planned this fall, but I'm not so sure I want to have to go through DeSantistan to get there, or be in DeSantistan at all, really.

De Santis has given them two very unappealing choices. Stay and be at the mercy of local governments with their shitty infrastructure and utilities (I seriously doubt any county would budget as much as Disney does in those areas), or make a deal with a different state. Disney will do which one is more profitable im the long term and I'm not sure which of the two choices is. It's hardly a unique situation; in Australia the F1 moved from NSW to Victoria and I suspect Disney has even more resources than the F1 (which isn't insignificant in their own right).

Either way this is a clear message to American Businesses to stay the fuck out of Florida as the Government can't be trusted to honour their agreements.
